Weekly Review

Triple A - Las Vegas

Who's Hot - 2B/SS Tony Abreu returned from injury and went 6 for 19 with 3 doubles and a pair of walks. OF Delwyn Young was 7 for 20 and clubbed his league-leading 45th double.

Who's Not - 2B/SS Chin Lung Hu, who's been seeing more time at 2B recently, went 7 for 30; however, 3 of the 7 hits were HR, giving him a career high 13 on the year. RHP Jon Meloan allowed 2 earned runs and 4 walks in 4.1 innings.

Who to Watch - 3B Andy LaRoche suffered a back injury in a game on August 3rd and has recorded just 2 at bats since then. The club said an MRI showed no serious damage and he's expected to return shortly. He has just 1 hit in 11 August at bats, his 16th HR of the season.

Double A - Jacksonville

Who's Hot - RHP James McDonald recorded his 6th win in 7 Double A starts by going 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 9. LHP Greg Miller, who's been struggling with his control most of the season, went 6 innings without issuing a walk this week while striking out 9. OF Anthony Raglani was 8 for 17 with 2 doubles and 2 HR.

Who's Not - 3B Blake DeWitt was just 3 for 14 with a triple and he missed the last 2 games. RHP Zach Hammes gave up 2 earned runs in 3.1 innings; his last appearance came as a reliever and hopefully he'll remain in the pen for the rest of the season. LHP Clayton Kershaw allowed 4 ER and 4 walks in 4 innings in his second Double A start.

Who to Watch - OF Xavier Paul returned from a leg injury and went 5 for 8 with a pair of dingers. The 22 year old has put up respectable numbers in the pitcher-friendly Southern League and could reach the bigs sometime next year.

High A - Inland Empire

Who's Hot - 1B Russell Mitchell went 13 for 30 with 5 doubles and a HR. OF Jamie Hoffman was 4 for 11. LHP Alberto Bastardo had 2 starts this week, giving up 3 ER in 10.2 innings.

Who's Not - 2B Travis Denker was 4 for 16. SS Ivan De Jesus went 4 for 17. RHP 's Javy Guerra and Jesus Castillo allowed 6 ER in 4.1 innings.

Who to Watch - 3B Josh Bell was recently promoted from Great Lakes, where he posted an .828 OPS with 15 HR in 107 games. He also committed 35 errors, which leads all Dodger minor leaguers. After being promoted, he's struggled through his first 10 games with a .179 average and just 1 HR. Still, he's the Dodgers' best power prospect outside of Andy LaRoche and should return to High A to begin next season.

Low A - Great Lakes

Who's Hot - OF Trayvon Robinson is 6 for his last 19 with a pair of stolen bases. RHP Josh Wall went 5.2 scoreless in his last start, recording his first win since July 7th. Who's Not - 2B Preston Mattingly went 5 for 22. Scott Van Slyke was 0 for 14. LHP Miguel Sanfler allowed 2 runs and 3 walks in an inning of work.

Who to Watch - 3B Brian Mathews posted solid numbers in the Pioneer League before replacing Josh Bell on the Loons and he's raked. He's hitting .375/.429/.469 in 8 games since his promotion. He'll turn 20 later this month.

Rookie Ball - Ogden

Who's Hot - SS Jaime Pedroza was 6 for 20 with 2 doubles and 2 HR. C Alex Garabedian was 8 for 19 with 3 doubles and a HR. RHP Bobby Blevins went 6 innings of 1 hit ball with a walk and 6 strikeouts after giving up 2 runs in 4.2 innings earlier in the week.

Who's Not - OF Jovanny Rosario was 4 for 26 with a HR. 1B Jaime Ortiz was 2 for 21 with a HR. LHP Wilfredo Diaz allowed 5 ER in 2.2 innings.

Who to Watch - 3B Austin Gallagher has done surprisingly well in his pro debut, with a line of .285/.357.431. There's a legit 3B prospect at every level ahead of him and one behind him. so he'll have to surprise everyone to make a name for himself in this system.

Who to Watch - RHP Danny Danielson was a 7th round pick this year and has had an impressive pro debut, allowing just 5 ER on 11 hits and 6 walks in 18.2 IP (2.41 ERA). He's also struck out 20 and held opposing batters to a .172 batting average.
