Minor League Recap - 4/7/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 7-3

Tony Abreu - 1 for 4, R, 2 K's, E
James Loney - 1 for 4, RBI, OF Assist
Andy LaRoche - 0 for 4, K, OF Assist
Delwyn Young - 2 for 4, R, SB

The 51's are still winless on the young season. Veteran Joe Mays worked 5 innings, allowing 5 runs though only 2 were earned. Shortstop Tomas Perez committed two errors and catcher Kelly Stinnett had two passed balls. At the plate, Andy LaRoche has struggled mightily, being held hitless for the second time in the series. Abreu played 3rd today and committed an error, though he doesnt have much experience at the position. Loney made a great, diving catch to save a run early in the contest. The bright spot offensively thus far has been Delwyn Young, who already has 5 hits in 3 games. On the mound, Casey Hoorelbeke relieved Mays but was ineffective, allowing 2 runs in 2 innings of work. Matt White pitched a scoreless eighth. The 51's look to salvage the series by earning their first win tomorrow at 1:00pm.

Xavier Paul - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Cory Dunlap - DNP

Wesley Wright - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, K

The Suns struck early, scoring 4 runs in the first and adding another couple in the third, looking for their second win of the season. Veteran Eric Cyr kept them in the game, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) in 5 innings. But reliever BJ Lamura gave up another 5 in 3 innings and the Suns couldnt recover. Hu committed his first error of the season, trying to recover from a down year defensively. Paul hit third in the lineup, with Dunlap getting the day off. Lefty Wesley Wright pitched a perfect inning in relief; he could be a LOOGY in the future. The Suns try to even up the series tomorrow at noon.

High A - Inland Empire won 11-6

Blake DeWitt - 1 for 5, Solo HR (1), E
Lucas May - 3 for 3, 2B, Solo HR (2), 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 CS
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 5, 2 R
Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 3, RBI, 2 R, BB, S

Brent Leach - 2 IP, 2 Hits, 0 R, BB, K

A nice rebound from last night's debacle. Marlon Arias didnt last long, going only 3.2 IP, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks. Cory Wade relieved him and provided the 66ers with 2.1 scoreless innings. Lefty Jacobo Meque allowed 3 unearned runs on no hits and 2 walks. Leach finished off the game with 2 scoreless. At the plate, every starter had at least one hit. May was the POTG, collecting his second double and second HR of the season. He and DeWitt combined for back to back homeruns in the 9th. DeJesus committed his 2nd error in 3 games, but he's a smooth defender that should refine his glovework with age. Outfielder Andrew Locke added a 3 for 4 performance, while second baseman Elian Herrera went 2 for 3. The series concludes tomorrow at noon.

Low A - Did Not Play (Inclement weather)
