Jacksonville's roster is up
On MiLB.com. Some notes:
LHP Clayton Kershaw and RHP James McDonald team up for an intimidating 1-2 punch at the top of the Suns' rotation. The rest of the rotation will likely consist of RHP Jesus Castillo, LHP Marlon Arias and RHP Mario Alvarez. The bullpen has some potential, with RHP Yhency Brazoban and RHP Zach Hammes likely alternating closer duties. RHP Cory Wade, RHP Brian Akin and RHP Kyle Wilson give Jacksonville good depth in middle relief.
The offense is a little less inspiring, but there are some promising High A graduates making their Double A debuts. C Lucas May will show if his power is for real, after slugging 25 HR in the California League last season. 1B Russell Mitchell adds another power bat in the middle of the lineup, collecting 22 HR as May's teammate in 2007. The most interesting infield prospect is SS Ivan DeJesus, who won't turn 21 years old until the first of May. He's likely going to leadoff or bat second, as he shows adequate contact skills and exceptional on-base ability. The outfield includes two centerfielders in Adam Godwin and Jamie Hoffman. Godwin was drafted as a leadoff hitting speedster, and he stole 24 bases in 32 attempts last season. Hoffman will likely move to a corner OF spot, which he should handle well after collecting 17 OF assists with Inland Empire last year.
