Minor League Recap - 4/9/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 14-5

James Loney - 1 for 5, RBI, R
Andy LaRoche - 2 for 5, Solo HR (1), 2 R, BB
Delwyn Young - 2 for 3, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB

Delwyn Young stayed hot as the 51's exploded for 14 runs. Travis Smith provided 5 innings of 2 run ball. Reliever Matt White pitched his third scoreless inning this season, so I guess he could always fall back on Baseball if that selling rock for billions thing doesnt work out. The Roche hit his first Homerun of the year, and hopefully many more will follow. Loney is still struggling, and while he's hit safely in 4 of 5, he only has 4 hits. Young's average is up to .474, though I think a strong performance out of the gate would do more to raise his trade value than help his chances of making the Dodgers. Las Vegas goes again tomorrow at 5pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 1-0

Xavier Paul - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, 3 K's
Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 4, K
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K's
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 3, K

Mike Megrew - 7 IP, 3 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's
Jon Meloan - 2 IP, Hit, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's

Megrew was perfect through 4 and Meloan was dominant in relief. But the Suns didnt put the game away until the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. Xavier "X Man" Paul delivered a game-winning single, scoring AJ Ellis and there was much rejoicing. It was Paul's first game as a leadoff hitter, and I'm hoping he sees a lot more time in that role given his past success at the top of the lineup. Hu has hit in each game this season. Dunlap is 2 for 14 so far, though he's drawn 3 walks. Megrew was most impressive in his first start of the year. He wasnt healthy for most of last season, so the fact that he comes out of the gate dominant is a testament to his off-season conditioning. He has the potential to be a middle of the order starter. The Suns start a series with West Tenn tomorrow at 4pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 4-1

Ivan DeJesus Jr - 1 for 4, 2B, S
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 4
Lucas May - 2 for 4
Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 4

James McDonald - 4.2 IP, 5 Hits, 4 ER, BB, 8 K's, Error

After a 4 game series in which 88 total runs were scored, the 66ers were held to just a single run. Lucas May collected his fourth straight multi=hit game and maintained his .500 batting average. DeJesus collected his 3rd double of the season. Hoffman has hit safely in all 5 games this season. DeWitt had an off night. On the hill, James McDonald made his High A debut. While the earned runs are high, the 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio is great. McDonald played in the OF early in his pro career, but has since become a full time pitcher. He has a projectible frame and a lot of potential. The Empire strikes back tomorrow night at 7pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 1-0

Trayvon Robinson - 0 for 4, K
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, 2 K's, E
Josh Bell - 0 for 3, K, E
Carlos Santana - 0 for 3, E

Miguel Sanfler - 2.1 IP, 2 Hits, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K's

The Fort Wayne Wizards took a perfect game into the bottom of the 9th, but Scott Van Slyke and Justin Fuller hit back to back singles and ruined the Wizards' chance at history. As you saw, all of the Loons' hitters were shut down. Great Lakes pitching kept them in the game. Cody White allowed a run on 4 hits (including a solo HR) in 3.2 innings. Sanfler, Miguel Ramirez and Garrett White went 4.1 scoreless. Hopefully, Mattingly, Bell and the rest can get things going tomorrow at 6pm.
