Minor League Recap - 5/19/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 4-1

Tony Abreu - 1 for 4, R, 2 K's
Matt Kemp - 0 for 4, K

Yhency Brazoban - 1 IP, Hit, ER, 0 BB, K

DJ Houlton pitched 5 innings of 1 hit ball as the 51's won their 3rd straight. Houlton walked 4 and struck out 5 to earn his 5th victory of the year. His ERA stands at 3.28. Brazoban allowed a solo HR in the bottom of the 9th but still sports an ERA of 2.25. Abreu has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and is batting .358. Kemp went hitless to lower his average to .272. Loney had the day off. Vegas concludes their series with Portland tomorrow at 2:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 5-3

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 3, BB, E
Xavier Paul - 0 for 4, K
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 1

Carolina took an early lead, scoring a single run in the first. The Suns answered back to tie the game in the bottom of the 2nd. The Mudcats scored again in the top of the 4th and again, the Suns tied it up in the bottom of the 5th. But a single run in the top of the 7th was countered with 3 by Jacksonville in the bottom of the inning. Solo HR from John Lindsey and Marshall McDougall accounted for the Suns first 2 runs, and both scored again along with Dunlap in the bottom of the 7th. Hu drew yet another walk but also committed his 7th error of the season. Paul is 4 for his last 20. Dunlap has 17 free passes on the year. Raglani only had a pinch hit appearance. Jacksonville hosts Carolina again tomorrow at 12:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 7-1

Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, HR (6), RBI, R, BB
Lucas May - 0 for 4, 2 K's
Travis Denker - 1 for 3, 2B, BB, K
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 4, E
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 4

Francisco Felix made his High A debut but was treated rudely as he allowed 4 ER over 5.1 innings. 2 of the runs came on solo HR. Jacobo Meque allowed 3 ER in his 2 innings of work. David Pfeiffer recorded 2 outs. On offense, Mitchell stayed hot, hitting his 2nd HR in as many days. Denker hit double #7 and drew walk #12, raising his average to .350. May, Hoffman, DeWitt and De Jesus Jr all went hitless. The Empire plays their getaway game with Modesto tomorrow at 1:05pm.

Clayton Kershaw - 6 IP, Hit, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K's
Miguel Sanfler - .1 IP, Hit, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K's

Clayton Kershaw was back to his old self, allowing 1 hit for the 2nd time this season. Kershaw won his 4th and now has 54 in 38 innings. Bell clubbed his 5th double of the season and is batting .303 in his last 10 games. Van Slyke has scored a run in 5 of his past 6 games. Robinson has struck out 15 times in the last 10 games. The Loons leave Kane County after tomorrow's 11am contest.
