Minor League Recap - 4/14/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 9-6

Tony Abreu - 2 for 4, 3B, R, BB, K, E
James Loney - 2 for 5, R
Andy LaRoche - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB
Delwyn Young - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB, K

Greg Miller - 4 IP, 3 Hits, 3 R (1 ER), BB, 7 K's
Chin Hui Tsao - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, K

Greg Miller improved on his season debut in the 51's win. Miller was flat out dominant for his first 3 innings, blowing gas in the mid 90s. But Miller seemed to tire in the 4th. After Brandon Wood reached on Abreu's error, Gorneault singled and Evans tripled them in. Evans then scored on a sac fly, tying the game. Miller seems to be on a strict pitch count, as he's made just 67 and 70 pitches in his 2 starts this year. However, he was much more aggressive this game, getting ahead of hitters early. Hopefully his control will continue to improve and he'll increase his stamina. At the plate, every LV hitter collected at least 1 base hit. Tony Abreu increased his batting average to .472. Second baseman Sergio Garcia was a triple away from the cycle. Garcia, Tomas Perez, Mitch Jones and Kelly Stinnett all homered. LaRoche and Young doubled. Vegas is riding a 6 game hitting streak and look to stay hot as they again face Salt Lake tomorrow at noon.

Double A - Jacksonville won 2-1

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 3, K
Xavier Paul - 1 for 3, K
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 3
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 2, Solo HR (3), BB

Mike Megrew - 5 IP, 4 Hits, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's
Jon Meloan - 2 IP, 2 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's

Mike Megrew dealt another gem in a pitcher's duel that concluded in the Suns' favor. Megrew scattered 4 hits and 2 walks over 5 scoreless innings, maintaining his 0.00 ERA for the season. Jon Meloan came in for another 2 inning stint, and with the Dodgers scoring a pair in the 8th, earned the win. Meloan has yet to allow a walk or extra base hit this season, and has 10 strikeouts in 6 innings. He's going to make it hard for Dodgers' brass to keep him in the minors much longer. At the plate, Paul collected another hit, upping his season average to .257. Hu's 0 for 3 performance didnt hurt much as he's still hitting .300, though Dunlap's hitless night lowered his average to .182. Raglani's 8th inning blast tied the game, and second baseman's Luis Maza's first shtonk of the year put Jacksonville ahead for good. The Suns are off tomorrow and will face Huntsville starting Monday at 4pm.
