Minor League Recap - 5/20/07
Triple A - Las Vegas lost 7-2
Tony Abreu - 0 for 3, SB
Matt Kemp - 0 for 3, K
James Loney - 0 for 2, BB, K
Rain shortened the series finale to 6 innings, and it may have been a boon for the 51's bullpen. Starter Spike Lundberg lasted just 4 innings after allowing 3 ER, and reliever Casey Hoorelbeke gave up 4 more in an inning work. Delwyn Young smashed his 5th HR of the season and is batting .400 over his last 10 games. Tony Abreu stole his 5th bag, while James Loney drew his 20th walk. Matt Kemp is 7 for his last 40. Vegas heads to Tacoma for 4, starting tomorrow at 6:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 9-4
Xavier Paul - 0 for 2
Cory Dunlap - 2 for 3, HR (4), 2 RBI, R, BB
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, HR (7), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K's
Mike Megrew - 3 IP, 6 Hits, 6 R (5 ER), 2 BB, 4 K's
Lefty Mike Megrew struggled, tossing less than 5 innings in his 3rd consecutive start. Megrew also allowed 2 HR, doubling his season total. His May ERA is 7.50. Xavier Paul came out of the game early, though I'm not sure of the reason. Dunlap and Raglani each homered. Dunlap has reached safely in his last 9 starts and is batting .391 since returning from his 7 game suspension. Raglani's shtonk is his only hit in his past 15 at bats. Chin Lung Hu did not play. Carolina, as well as the Suns, leave town after tomorrow's 9:05am contest.

High A - Inland Empire won 4-2
Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 5, 2B, RBI
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, BB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 4, K
Blake DeWitt - 2 for 4, R
Javy Guerra - 6 IP, 4 Hits, ER, 4 BB, 6 K's
While Guerra's control wavered, he had one of his better outings this year. Interesting factoid on Guerra: he's holding lefties to a .218 batting average, but righties are smoking him at a .353 clip. Still, Guerra now has 40 strikeouts and 33 walks in 41.1 innings. Hoffman clubbed his 9th double of the season and DeWitt had his 4th multi-hit performance in his last 10 games. Mitchell has reached base safely in his past 10 games, while De Jesus Jr continues to struggle and is currently hitting .238. After a day off tomorrow, the first place 66ers head to Lancaster for a 5 game series.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 6-3
Josh Bell - 1 for 4, HR (3), RBI, R, E
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, R, SB
Trayvon Robinson - 0 for 2, K
Miguel Sanfler - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's
Loons' Lefty starter Thomas Melgarejo struggled but the offense kept him in the game. The Loons led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th, but after a leadoff strikeout, Melgarejo allowed a double and a walk. He was replaced by a new member of the bullpen, Yulkin German, who proceded to walk the bases loaded, hit a batter to plate a run, and walk another run in before allowing a 2 run single. Garrett White relieved him, allowed a single to reload the bases, but struck the next 2 batters out. Still, the damage had been done and Great Lakes lost. Bell hit his 3rd HR of the season, but also committed his 14th error. Mattingly stole his 6th base in 7 attempts. Trayvon Robinson is just 2 for his last 13. Great Lakes heads to Burlington for 4, starting tomorrow night at 4pm.
