Player of the Day - Trayvon Robinson, OF

Tray hasn't run nearly as much as I've expected, especially given his .360 OBP. He's been caught 7 times in 20 attempts, so he definitely needs to improve on his success rate. Robinson's power has been down this month and his strikeouts are up, yet he's still managing to bat over .300. So how is he still doing so well? 5 letters: B-A-B-I-P (Batting Average on Balls In Play). One of the most important tools in evaluating prospects is seeing how lucky they get. In spite of a line drive rate of less than 10%, Tray's BABIP is an astounding .413. His average on flyballs alone is .541, more than twice as high as normal. Unless he cuts down on the strikeouts and walks more, this type of production shouldn't be expected down the road.
