Minor League Recap - 4/15/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 8-2

Tony Abreu - 0 for 3, BB
James Loney - 3 for 4, R
Andy LaRoche - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, R
Delwyn Young - 0 for 4, RBI, K, E, OF Assist

Bartolo Colon was too much for most of the 51's lineup. The Angels' starter is concluding his rehab assignment and shut down everyone not named James Loney. J Lo collected two hits against Colon and scored the first run for Vegas in the 9th. His 3 hit performance raised his batting average to .261. LaRoche's double knocked in Loney, though it was his only hit of the game and he's still under the Mendoza line. Young had an off night but is still hitting .333 and threw a runner out at home. Abreu's 0'fer ended his 8 game hitting streak. Pitching was a problem, as starter Travis Smith allowed 5 runs in 5.1 innings. The relievers didnt fare much better, as Mark Alexander and Spike Lundberg allowed 3 runs in just under 3 innings. Matt White pitched a scoreless 9th and is sporting an impressive 1.23 ERA. LV concludes their series with Salt Lake tomorrow at 7pm.

A pitching duel in the Cally league? It's twue. The game went into the 12th inning before Blake DeWitt tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a play at the plate. Mitchell and Hoffman went hitless, while DeWitt, May and De Jesus all collected one a piece. On the pitching side, 24 year old Miguel Pinango pitching a gem, allowing just 3 hits over 6 scoreless innings and striking out 9. Low A - Great Lakes lost 3-1

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, 2 K's, SB, E, OF Assist
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, 3 K's
Josh Bell - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI
Carlos Santana - 0 for 4, 2 K's
David Sutherland - 1 for 4, 2 K's
Scott Van Slyke - 1 for 4

The offense let the Loons down again. Thomas Melgarejo got the start and pitched well, allowing just 1 run in 5 innings. Doug Brooks and Miguel Ramirez allowed 2 more runs in their combined 3 innings of work. At the plate, Tray is really the only hitter who's had a good start to the season. Although he only had one hit, he's still batting .312. He also stole his 4th base of the year. Mattingly's batting average has dropped below .100 and he's struck out 11 times in 21 at bats. He has just 2 hits and no walks. Definitely struggling but he has plenty of time to turn it around. Josh Bell had a nice game with 2 hits and he didnt commit an error! Van Slyke and Sutherland collected hits as well. Santana is also struggling, hitting just .125. Josh Wall hits the mound in the series finale, tomorrow at 3pm.
