Minor League Recap - 4/26/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 9-3

Tony Abreu - 2 for 4, 2 R, K
Matt Kemp - 2 for 4, 3B, HR (1), 4 RBI, 2 R
James Loney - 2 for 4, RBI, R, K
Andy LaRoche - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Delwyn Young - 1 for 4, 2B, K

Greg Miller - 4 IP, 2 Hits, 3 R (2 ER), 4 BB, 4 K's, 2 HBP, WP

While the 51's won the game, the big story was Greg Miller. Through the first 4 innings, Miller was brilliant. He extended his hitless innings streak to 11.1 innings and was blowing hitters away with mid 90s heat. But in the top of the 5th, Mike Morse led off with a single and it all went downhill from there. He walked the next batter, wild pitched them to second and third and then walked the bases loaded. After a mound visit from Kenny Howell, Miller induced a groundball to short. But Tomas Perez misplayed it and a run scored. Miller proceded to hit the next batter and that was followed by a run scoring single. Miller was then removed from the game. Luis Gonzalez (No relation) struck out the next batter and then came a much needed 4-6-3 double play. Now I'm not sure if the hit shook Miller, but it's possible that he was trying too hard after he allowed that first single. Nevertheless, he was brilliant for 4 innings and is allowing just a .111 batting average to opposing hitters. Tony Abreu raised his average to .414, while Kemp hit the first pitch he saw over the right-center wall and added a triple. Loney also had a pair of hits while LaRoche got his 0'fer on. LV's series with Tacoma continues tomorrow at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville had the day off

High A - Inland Empire lost 5-4

Ivan De Jesus Jr - 1 for 4, 3B, BB, E
Travis Denker - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Lucas May - 1 for 5, 2 K's, CS
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 5, 2B, R, K
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 4, BB, K

The 66ers came up just short, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the top of the 9th. De Jesus Jr hit his 2nd triple of the season, adding a walk. Lucas May extended his hitting streak to 12 games and is currently hitting .360. Russell Mitchell clubbed his 8th double, while Travis Denker is hitting .300. Blake DeWitt struck out in the 9th with 1 out and the tying run on third. DeWitt is really struggling, hitting just .214 thus far. On the bump, Miguel Pinango allowed 3 ER in 6 innings. Cory Wade pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing a solo HR. His ERA is 1.08. IE returns home to host Modesto starting tomorrow at 7pm.
