Minor League Recap - 4/21/07

Triple A - Las Vegas was rained out

Double A - Jacksonville won 5-2

Chin Lung Hu - 3 for 5, 2 2B's, 2 R, K
Xavier Paul - 1 for 4, 2 RBI, R, K, OF Assist
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 2, RBI, BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 2 for 3, 3B, RBI, R, BB, E

Justin Orenduff - 3 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 5 BB, K

Hu's the man! Chin Lung Hu is 12 for his last 20 with 5 doubles, including 2 today. His average is up to .350. Raglani extended his on base streak and hit his 3rd triple of the season. He's now batting .294 with a .725 SLG. Paul and Raglani are still struggling. Orenduff got his first start of the year, and while he was wild, you have to love the fact that he didnt allow a hit. He also hasnt allowed an earned run this season. Carlos Alvarez picked up where Justin left off and allowed an ER over 4 innings. He picked up his 3rd win of the season and his ERA raised to 0.79. The petite southpaw gets by with a fringe average fastball and a very good change. Wesley Wright, another small lefty, earned his first save of the year with 2 no-hit innings. He also hasnt allowed a run thus far. The Suns hope to pick up where they left off tomorrow at 1pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 7-2

Travis Denker - 1 for 4, 2B, R, BB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 2 for 4, R, BB
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 3, BB, 2 K's
Lucas May - 2 for 4, 2 RBI
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 4
Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 4, K, SB, E

Lucas May stayed hot for the 66ers, but Inland Empire could only muster two runs in their loss. May raised his batting average to .379, good for second in the league. Russell Mitchell's BA is up to .367, while Jamie Hoffman is hitting .317 and Denker has a .333 mark in limited time. But the pitching let the game get away early. After the Empire scored their 2 runs in the first, the Jethawks scored a run in each of the first two innings before scoring 2 in the next 2 and another 1 in the 6th. Lancaster hosts IE again tomorrow at 2pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 5-4

Trayvon Robinson - 2 for 4, R, K
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, K, 3 E's
Josh Bell - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, E
Carlos Santana - 0 for 3, BB
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3, OF Assist

Miguel Sanfler - 1 IP, Hit, R (0 ER), BB, 2 K's

And the losing streak ends at 8! Somehow, the Loons managed to score 5 runs in the 3rd inning and work around 4 errors to achieve just their 5th win of the year. Trayvon Robinson was the only hitter with a multi-hit effort, getting back to hitting .275. Mattingly collected errors number 6, 7 and 8 while posting a donut hole at the dish. Bell worked 2 walks but also committed his 7th miscue of the season. Scott Van Slyke threw Angels' prospect Hank Conger out at home in the second inning, though he went 0 for 3 and is barely hitting over .200. Carlos Santana is hitting under a buck. Eduardo Perez hit his 2nd homer of the homestand, a 3 run shot that put the Loons ahead for good. Thomas Melgarejo allowed 3 ER in 3.1 innings and was relieved by Francisco Felix, who pitched 4.2 scoreless innings and collected his first win of the season while lowering his ERA to 0.57. Sanfler allowed an unearned run in the 9th for his first save. Great Lakes faces Cedar Rapids again tomorrow at noon.
