Minor League Recap - 5/05/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 10-6

Tony Abreu - 2 for 4, 2B, BB, K
Matt Kemp - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, R, K
James Loney - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, 2 R, BB, K

Vegas had the lead for exactly a half inning, scoring a single run in the top of the 4th, before Fresno responded with 4 in the bottom half and seven more over the next two innings. Mark Alexander continues to struggle mightily, allowing 4 ER in an inning of work, raising his ERA to 14.25. Conversely, Eric Hull is doing well, striking out 2 in a perfect 8th. His ERA is 1.47. Kemp doubled for the second time in as many nights. Abreu also doubled and raised his average to .357. Loney had the 3rd Vegas double, his 6th of the season. LaRoche DNP. The 51's look for the first win of the series tomorrow at 2:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 5-0

Chin Lung Hu - 5 for 5, 3 2B's, RBI, R, CS
Xavier Paul - 1 for 5, RBI, 3 K's
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 1, R, 3 BB

Mike Megrew - 7 IP, 3 Hits, 0 R, BB, 8 K's
Zach Hammes - 1 IP, Hit, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's
Jon Meloan - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 2 BB, K

Another brilliant outing from Megrew, who took a no-hitter into the 5th inning. Suns' pitchers allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in their combined shutout. Hammes was solid in his second outing of the season. Meloan hadnt worked in a week due to soreness between his shoulder and neck and there was some rust, as he doubled his walk total for the season. As a matter of fact, he's walked at least 1 batter in his last 3 outings. Still, the 20:5 strikeout:walk ratio is very good and his ERA is only 1.88. Hu challenged Megrew for player of the game honors, collecting his 2nd 5 hit game of his career and raising his batting average to .366. He also doubled for the 4th time in his last 6 at bats and has 15 on the year. Paul is struggling and has struck out 11 times in his last 4 games. Raglani, on the other hand, drew 3 walks and now has 21 on the season. Cory Dunlap is serving a 7 day suspension for violating team rules. Details of the violation were not released by the team. Jacksonville wraps up their series in Carolina tomorrow at 11am.

High A - Inland Empire won 5-4

Jamie Hoffman - 3 for 4, 2B, 2 R
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 4, R, K
Lucas May - 0 for 4, K
Travis Denker - 2 for 2, 2 RBI, BB
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, 2B, R
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 3, K

James McDonald - 6 IP, 3 Hits, ER, 0 BB, 6 K's

Another strong pitching performance on the day for a Dodger farmhand, James McDonald picked up his first win of the season and has allowed just 5 ER over his past 4 starts while walking 6 and striking out 26. Jordan Pratt struggled in his inning of relief, allowing 3 ER before being replaced by Ramon Troncoso, who allowed 1 hit over 2 scoreless frames. Troncoso now has 6 saves on the season while sporting a 0.98 ERA. Hoffman stayed hot on offense, picking up his 8th double and raising his average to .366. Mitchell doubled for the 9th time this year, while Denker's effort raised his average to .344. The Empire concludes its series in Rancho Cucamonga tomorrow at 2:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 8-1

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, R, 3 K's, E
David Sutherland - 0 for 3
Josh Bell - 0 for 2, BB, K
Kenley Jansen - 0 for 3, K

Miguel Sanfler - 3.2 IP, 3 Hits, ER, BB, 3 K's

This time there was an excuse for the lack of offense. The Loons ran into Twins' prospect Jeff Manship, who's now 3-0 on the year with a 0.92 ERA. Great Lakes got their run in the first inning and were held to just a single hit and a walk over the next 8 innings. Miguel Sanfler pitched decently, lowering his ERA to 1.42. Preston Mattingly got the night off. Eduardo Perez and Matt Berezay both doubled, but the Loons did little else. Great Lakes looks to end their 5 game losing streak tomorrow with Beloit at noon.
