Minor League Recap - 5/06/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 9-6

Tony Abreu - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2 SB's
Matt Kemp - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, R, 2 K's
James Loney - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, R

Greg Miller - 2.2 IP, 5 Hits, 6 ER, 6 BB, 5 K's, WP
Yhency Brazoban - 1 IP, Hit, 0 R, BB, 2 K's

A win for the 51's overshadowed another difficult outing for Greg Miller. Miller hasnt been the same since his hitless inning string was broke. He's walked 12 batters in his last 2 outings (5.2 IP) and hasnt lasted more than 4 innings in his last 3 starts. What was looking like a promising reviviscene for this young southpaw has turned into a nightmare. Hopefully Dodger officials can figure out why he's struggling. The offense really picked Miller up, after falling behind 6-4 through 3 innings. The 51's picked up another run in the 5th to cut the lead to 3 and then they made their comeback in the 8th. Bigbie began the inning by grounding out, but a Kemp single and a Loney double placed brought the tying run to the plate. Delwyn Young grounded back to the pitcher but reached base as Kemp scored and Loney went to 3rd. Young then advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.
Sergio Garcia then walked to load the bases and after Tomas Perez struck out for the 2nd out of the inning, Ken Huckaby came through with a 2 run single to tie the game. But the big shot came after a pitching change, when Mitch Jones came in to pinch hit and sent a drive over the center field wall to put Vegas up by 3. Brazoban held in the 8th and with 2 outs with the winning run at the plate in the 9th, Eric Hull struck out the final batter of the game to give the 51's a much needed win. Kemp picked up double number 4, while Loney collected his 7th. Abreu stole his 2nd and 3rd bases of the year. LV finishes up their series with Fresno tomorrow at 12:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 2-1

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 3, R, BB, SB, CS
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 4, RBI
Lucas May - 0 for 4, K
Travis Denker - 0 for 2, BB, K
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, 2B, R, K
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 1 for 3, 2B, K

A very strong start from Miguel Pinango allowed the 66ers to come from behind and edge out Rancho Cucamonga for the win. Pinango earned his first victory of the season by pitching 8 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits (including a Solo HR). Brent Leach pitched a perfect 9th for his 4th save. Hoffman stole his 5th base of the season and was also caught stealing for the first time this season. Mitchell clubbed his 10th double of the year, De Jesus Jr hit his 5th. May continues to struggle, and is hitting under .200 over his last 10 games. The Empire now hosts Bakersfield for 3, starting tomorrow night at 7:05pm.
