Minor League Recap - 5/28/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 11-7

James Loney - 2 for 5, R, K
Matt Kemp - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, 3B, 3 R, BB

Hong Chih Kuo - 4.2 IP, 6 Hits, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 5 K's

Hong Chih Kuo suffered his first loss of the season with the 51's. Kuo made 80 pitches, 49 of which were strikes. He raised his average to 3.60 but has 28 strikeouts in 20 innings. Matt Kemp had another big game. He's hit in 8 straight, with 5 of the last 6 being multi-hit games. Kemp now has 13 doubles, 3 triples and 3 HR in 32 games. James Loney raised his average to .277 and has been batting 2nd of late. Vegas heads to Nashville and will begin their 4 game series tomorrow at 4pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 10-3

Xavier Paul - 2 for 5, HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 R
Anthony Raglani - 2 for 4, HR (8), 2 RBI, R, BB
Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 4, 2B, R

Justin Orenduff - 5 IP, 2 Hits, ER, 2 BB, 7 K's
Jon Meloan - 1.1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's

Justin Orenduff won his 1st game of the season as the Suns' offense put on a show. Orenduff lowered his ERA to 3.00 and how has 32 strikeouts in 33 innings. Jon Meloan also sports an ERA of 3.00 and has 35 strikeouts in 24 innings. Paul hit his first leadoff HR of the season and I'm pleased to see him batting first, given the success he's had there over the past few seasons. Raglani hit HR #8 and drew yet another walk. his league-leading 37th. Hu clubbed his 19th double while batting 9th and is hitting .339. Dunlap did not play. Jacksonville plays Birmingham tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 9-4

Blake DeWitt - 2 for 4, HR (4), 2 RBI, R, 2 K's, E
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 2 for 4, 2 R, BB, 2 K's
Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, R, BB
Lucas May - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, R, BB, K
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 4, RBI, R
Travis Denker - 1 for 3, RBI, R, BB, E

Southpaw Alberto Bastardo also won his 1st of the year as the 66ers raced back into first place. Bastardo had, by far, his best outing of the year going 6 innings while allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while walking none and striking out 5. Blake DeWitt had his 4th multi-hit game in the last 5 and is batting over .300 in the month of May. However, Blake also committed his 10th error. De Jesus Jr has 13 hits and 6 walks in his last 10 games. Hoffman hit double #12, while May smacked double #11. Denker has reached base in his last 10 starts. The Empire again faces the Quakes tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 8-6

Trayvon Robinson - 3 for 5, 2 RBI, R, SB, CS
Josh Bell - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, 3 R, BB, 2 E's
Scott Van Slyke - 2 for 5, 2 RBI
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, R, BB, K

Josh Bell extended his hitting streak to 14 games in a slugfest. Bell's OPS over the last 14 games is roughly 1.400 and he raised his doubles total to to 9. Robinson had a nice game, raising his average to .263 and has now stolen 11 of 13 bases. Mattingly is keeping his average over .200 and has a modest 5 game hitting streak. Van Slyke is hitting a solid .275 and is hitting .313 in May. Great Lakes will now host Dayton for the next 4 days, starting tomorrow at 4pm.
