Minor League Recap - 6/02/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 5-4

James Loney - 4 for 5, 2B, R
Matt Kemp - 1 for 5, 2B, K

Lefty Eric Stults earned his 5th win of the year as the 51's squeaked out a win. Stults went 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits. He's allowed 2 runs or less in 3 of his last 4 starts. Loney's 4 hit night boosted his average to .277. Kemp collected his 14th double. Sergio Garcia and Luis Maza had 3 hit nights. Vegas stays in Memphis 3 more days, with a game tomorrow at 12:10pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 7-5

Chin Lung Hu - 3 for 5, 3B, HR (2), RBI, 2 R, K
Xavier Paul - 1 for 2, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 4, RBI, 3 K's
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 4, 3 K's

Justin Orenduff - 4 IP, 10 Hits, 5 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's

The Suns struck early, scoring in each of the first 3 innings to take a 5-0 lead. But Mobile struck back quickly, roughing up Suns' starter Justin Orenduff to the tune of 5 4th inning runs. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 8th inning, when Marshall McDougall hit a lead off triple. Raglani flew out and AJ Ellis walked. John Lindsey struck out to put the game in the capable hands of Wilken Ruan. And he came threw with a bloop single into shallow right to score both runners and put Jacksonville ahead by 2. Jon Meloan came in to record his 8th save. Hu missed the cycle by a double, while collecting his 4th triple and 2nd HR. Paul had Hu's double, his 9th. Raglani is struggling, hitting just .206 over his last 10 games. Dunlap's even worse, hitting .147 over the same period. The Suns again host Mobile tomorrow at noon.

High A - Inland Empire won 4-2

Blake DeWitt - 3 for 3, R, BB, CS
Jamie Hoffman - 0 for 3, BB
Lucas May - 0 for 4
Travis Denker - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, R, K

The 66ers led all the way behind a solid performance from Alberto Bastardo. Bastardo allowed a run over 5 innings before Jesus Rodriguez, Jacobo Meque and Cory Wade combined for 1 run over 4 innings. DeWitt has 4 games with at least 3 hits in the last 10, though he's hitting just .257 overall. Denker hit his 10th double. The Empire hosts Lake Elsinore one more time tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Great Lakes played a doubleheader

Game 1 - Great Lakes won 6-3

Trayvon Robinson - 0 for 4
Josh Bell - 0 for 4, 3 K's
Scott Van Slyke - 1 for 3, R
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 3, 3B, 2 RBI

Great Lakes broke open a scoreless tie in the 2nd with a single run, followed by another in the 3rd and 4 more in the 5th to seal the deal. Cody White pitched 5 shutout innings, earning his 5th win and lowering his ERA to 3.04. Mattingly hit his 4th triple, while Adolfo Gonzalez came a triple short of the cycle. Scott Van Slyke raised his average to .278 and Josh Bell's streak of reaching base safely ended at 18 games.

Game 2 - Great Lakes lost 3-0

Josh Bell - 0 for 3, K
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3, 2 K's

Bell went 0 for 6 over the twin-bill and saw his batting average drop .267. Mattingly and Robinson didnt play the second game. Van Slyke also went hitless as the Loons as a team were held to 4 singles. Michael Gardner allowed all 3 runs in 5 innings before being replaced by Miguel Ramirez, who tossed a scoreless frame to lower his ERA to 0.89. Great Lakes only plays one tomorrow at 10:30am.
