Minor League Recap - 6/1/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 6-2

James Loney - 0 for 4, 2 K's
Matt Kemp - 1 for 4, R

The 51's ran into a wall named Yovanni Gallardo tonight and were held scoreless for 8 innings until posting a deuce in the 9th. Vegas starter Miguel Pinango took his first loss at Triple A, raising his ERA to 4. Kemp has a 10 game hitting streak and is batting .319 on the year. Loney has gone hitless in his last 2 games but is still hitting .302 over his last 10. The 51's head to Memphis for 4, starting tomorrow at 4:10pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 7-2

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 5, RBI
Xavier Paul - 0 for 4, 2 K's
Cory Dunlap - 2 for 4

Zach Hammes - 5 IP, 7 Hits, 4 ER, 0 BB, K

Suns' starter Zach Hammes allowed a season-high 4 runs in his 2nd loss of the year. Hammes, who began the year coming out of the pen, has struggled as a starter and now sports an ERA of 4.19. Hu and Paul went hitless, lowering their averages to .324 and .281 respectively. Dunlap's multi-hit effort raised his average to .252. He had been just 3 for his last 26. Anthony Raglani did not play. The Suns return home for a 10 game stand, starting tomorrow with Mobile at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 1-0

James McDonald - 6 IP, 5 Hits, ER, 0 BB, 8 K's

66ers' starter James McDonald had another strong outing but was overshadowed by Padres' prospect Wade Leblanc, who took a perfect game into the 8th inning before May's single spoiled his effort. McDonald lowered his ERA to 3.07 and now has an impressive 73:16 strikeout to walk ratio. May also stole his 2nd base of the season, De Jesus Jr had the only other hit for the 66ers. The Empire plays the series finale with Lake Elsinore tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 5-2

Josh Bell - 0 for 3, BB, E
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 3, 3B, R, K, E
Scott Van Slyke - 1 for 2, RBI

Josh Wall - 6.2 IP, 2 Hits, 3 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 9 K's

Loons' starter Josh Wall got his 7th loss the hard way. In the 4th, Wall retired the first batter before Bell's 20th error of the season allowed a runner to reach base. Wall struck out the next batter, but a walk and a bases-loading single was followed by Mattingly's errant throw that cleared the bases. Wall retired the side in order over the next 2 innings before 2 strikeouts were followed by 2 walks in the 7th and he was pulled. Wall lowered his ERA to 5.33 and struck out a season high 9. Bell extended his on-base streak to 18 games. Mattingly collected his 3rd triple but also committed his 17 error. Scott Van Slyke is now hitting .277. Great Lakes heads to South Bend for a double header tomorrow.
