Minor League Recap - 6/05/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 4-2

James Loney - 2 for 4, R, K, OF Assist
Matt Kemp - 1 for 4, HR (4), RBI, R
Andy LaRoche - 2 for 3, 2 2B's, R, BB

The 51's rode Mitch Jones' 19th HR and William Juarez' strong 6 innings to their daytime win. Juarez allowed just 1 run in his 6 innings, earning his 2nd win in Triple A. Matt Kemp's 4th HR extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Andy LaRoche's pair of doubles gives him 6 in Vegas. Loney threw out a runner at home in the 1st inning and is batting .284. Delwyn Young was hitless in 4 at bats. The 51's take tomorrow off as they travel home for a 4 game series with Fresno starting Thursday.

Double A - Jacksonville won 7-3

Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 2, RBI
Xavier Paul - 0 for 4, 2 K's

Jon Meloan - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, K

The Suns won their 4th straight as Juan Gonzalez (No, not that Juan Gonzalez) hit 2 homeruns and the bullpen picked up starter Alvis Ojeda. Ojeda got a no-decision when he left the game after 4 innings, having surrendered 2 runs. Mark Alexander came in for 3 innings and got the win, while Luis Gonzalez and Jon Meloan combined for 2 scoreless innings. At the plate, Hu singled in his 2nd at bat before being replaced by a pinch runner who stayed in the game. No word on whether or not Hu's injured. Xavier Paul has only 2 hits so far in June, while Raglani and Dunlap each singled. Jacksonville takes on Mobile in the series finale tomorrow at 10:05am.

High A - Inland Empire won 5-4

Ivan De Jesus Jr - 2 for 5, R, K


The 66ers led all the way, giving Marlon Arias his 4th win of the season. Arias allowed 3 runs in 5 innings before leaving with a 5-3 lead. After Francisco Felix worked a perfect inning, Jacobo Meque came in and loaded the bases without retiring a single batter. Jordan Pratt replaced Meque and struck out the first batter he faced. The next batter singled to left, scoring a run, but a second runner was thrown out at the plate. Pratt struck out the next man to end the threat. Lucas May and Blake DeWitt combined for 2 hits and 5 walks, while Ivan De Jesus Jr had 2 hits of his own. Travis Denker has hit in 8 of his last 10, though Russell Mitchell has just 2 hits in his last 10 games. The Empire finishes up with High Desert tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 12-2

Josh Bell - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K's
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, 2 K's

The Loons' offense finally cooled off as Great Lakes lost the getaway game to South Bend. Starter Arismendy Castillo allowed 5 runs on 12 hits over 6 innings for his 3rd loss. Joe Jones had twice as many walks (4) as outs recorded (2) in giving up another 5 runs. Miguel Sanfler got in on the fun too, surrendering a grand slam in the 7th inning. Preston Mattingly's hitting streak ended at 11, while Josh Bell has just 3 hits so far in June. The Loons have a travel day tomorrow before starting a 4 game series with Fort Wayne on Thursday.
