It was a thriller, coming down to the final at bat to decide the game. Arismendy Castillo allowed 5 ER in the 2nd inning, raising his ERA to 6.39. The Loons mounted a comeback, scoring 3 times in the 5th and again in the 7th to pull within a run. But in the top of the 9th, Sanfler gave up a run to fall behind 6-4. So the Loons went to the bottom of the 9th with a difficult task ahead. It looked even worse after Van Slyke lead off the inning with a strikeout and after Apodaca singled, Matt Berezay pinch hit for Trayvon Robinson but struck out to give the Loons one last hope. Bridger Hunt singled to put the tying run on base and Adolfo Gonzalez singled to again bring the Loons within a run. After a new pitcher was brought in, it came down to the red hot Josh Bell and he came through with a walk-off double, his 10th of the year. Though Bell's hit streak ended at 15, he's extended his on-base streak to 17 games. Van Slyke clubbed his first shtonk of the season, while Preston Mattingly committed his 16th error. The series finale will be played tomorrow at 4pm.

DJ Houlton pitched into the 7th, but left with a runner on 1st. The run scored on a single to tie the game at 3-3. Double A - Jacksonville won 5-3

Xavier Paul - 2 for 4, R, K

Anthony Raglani - 0 for 3, 3 K's
Cory Dunlap - 1 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI, R

Jon Meloan - 1 IP, Hit, 0 R, BB, K

The Suns were dominated for 8 innings, being held scoreless on just 3 hits. Starter Eric Cyr pitched decently, allowing 3 runs over 8 innings on the way to his 5th win. But in the top of the 9th, Jacksonville finally got to Birmingham starter Adam Russell. The inning started with back to back singles from Paul and Hu, followed by a popout from Alberto Concepcion, who pinch hit for Anthony Raglani. John Lindsey was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Russell was replaced. Marshall McDougall hit a possible double play ball but the third baseman threw it away and Paul scored, leaving the bases loaded. Then came the big hit, from the big guy, as Cory "C Diddy" Dunlap hit a bases clearing double to give the Suns the lead. Dunlap scored on a 2 out single to give Jax a 2 run advantage. Meloan came in to close it out, and while he allowed a pair of baserunners, Jon struck out the final batter of the game to secure the victory. Dunlap's double was his 5th. Paul's multi-hit effort raised his average to .283, while Hu's lone hit lowered his average to .337. Raglani had a bad day but is still OPSing .913. The Suns must rise early for tomorrow's 8:05am game.

High A - Inland Empire lost 7-4

For 11 innings, the teams combined for a whopping 0 runs on 3 hits. Quakes starter Anthony Ortego had a no-hitter going into the 9th, before Blake DeWitt broke it up with a single. The 66ers threatened in the 9th, with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but Lucas May and Russell Mitchell struck out to send the game to extra innings. But reliever Jesus Rodriguez fell apart in the 12th, allowing all 7 runs and his manager to get ejected. The Empire made a comeback in the bottom of the inning, and again Russell Mitchell came to the plate with a chance to win the game. But it was deja vu all over again as Mitchell struck out to end the game. Jamie Hoffman drew 3 walks (2 were intentional) and stole his 9th base. Blake DeWitt stayed hot and is now hitting .261. De Jesus Jr, May and Mitchell each drew a walk. 66ers' starter Jesus Castillo pitched very well, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks over 7 scoreless. Cory Wade tossed 3 perfect frames. The Empire joins the day game party with an 11am game tomorrow.

Like the 51's, the Suns blew a late inning lead. Hammes was erratic in his 2nd start of the season, allowing 3 walks after issuing just 1 over his first 11.2 innings. Still, Jacksonville came up with 5 runs between the 4th and 5th innings to take the lead. But Luis Gonzalez and Mark Alexander allowed 5 runs in 2 innings which let the game get away. He now has 65 strikeouts and 16 walks in 52.2 innings. At this rate, he's not long for High A. Mario Alvarez and Cory Wade combined for 2.2 scoreless innings. Wall faced 1 batter over the minimum through the first 3 innings before giving up 3 runs in the 4th and a pair in the 5th. He's allowed 15 ER in his last 13.1 innings. And Miguel "Wild Thing" Sanfler had another off night. 4 wild pitches and 4 walks led to 5 runs. He has a fastball that can touch 95 and a nice breaking pitch, but his command has been far too inconsistent this season. Josh Bell extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his 6th shtonk and his 1st triple. Bell's hitting .400 with 4 doubles and 4 HR in his last 10 games. Preston Mattingly had the night off. Ramon Troncoso threw 3 scoreless frames and Mark Alexander allowed just an unearned run over 2 innings, but the damange had already been done. Hu hit his 18th double of the year and is hitting .350. Raglani drew yet another walk and Paul is just 4 for his last 18. Dunlap appeared as a pinch hitter but struck out. Jacksonville leaves Tennessee after tomorrow's 2pm contest.

High A - Inland Empire lost 8-7

Travis Denker - 3 for 4, RBI, CS
Ivan De Jesus - 1 for 3, HBP

Javy Guerra - 5.1 IP, 3 Hits, 4 ER, 5 BB, 6 K's

Javy Guerra struggled in his first and last innings of work as the bullpen couldnt hold onto a lead. Guerra walked the bases loaded in the 1st before allowing a 2 run double. He then retired 10 of the next 11 before the 6th, when he allowed 2 more walks and wild pitched a run in before leaving. Jordan Pratt allowed another run to score and that was it for Guerra. A very Jekyl and Hide performance. May hit his 1st HR since May 11th and just his 2nd of the month. DeWitt is on fire right now. He's 11 for his last 15 and has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games. He's hitting .312 in May. Denker also just keeps on slugging and is batting .350/.414/.504. The Empire heads back to San Bernardino for a 7 game homestand, starting tomorrow with Rancho Cucamonga at 5pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 10=3

Josh Bell - 1 for 3
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, 2 K's
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3, BB

Mattingly got his single a day late. Van Slyke drew his 11th walk. A name to watch is James Peterson: he didnt play at all last year but has gotten off to a great start through 8 games. He's hitting .387/.472/.742. Though he's 23, he's a good hitter and should earn a promotion to High A in no time. Great Lakes returns home for 2 more games with Lansing, starting tomorrow at noon.

Minor League Recap - 5/25/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 7-6

James Loney - 2 for 4, 2 2B's, R, BB, 2 K's
Matt Kemp - 1 for 5, R, 2 K's, SB

Greg Miller - 0.0 IP, 0 Hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K's

How quickly momentum can change. The 51's took the lead with 3 in the 3rd and added another score in the 4th. Spike Lundberg pitched 5 strong frames, allowing a run in his final inning. But the bullpen let him down. Greg Miller, who's been struggling to find the strike zone of late, was as wild as ever tonight. He faced 3 batters, walked all of the on 13 pitches, of which 12 were balls. Miller was relieved by BJ LaMura who promptly allowed a grand slam to put Vegas down by 1. The 51's struck back, though, as Sergio Garcia homered to lead off the bottom of the 6th. The teams were held scoreless in the 7th before reliever Matt White walked to lead off the 8th. He was sacrificed to 2nd before Loney struck out. And with 2 outs, Kemp hit a ball into right field but White, the go-ahead run, was cut down at the plate. And as quickly as momentum looked to favor the 51's, it changed directions when Matt White allowed back to back HR to begin the 9th. Vegas tried to come back, as Mitch Jones homered to lead off the bottom of the 9th, but LV couldnt make it as they dropped the series opener. Kemp stole his 7th base while Loney raised his doubles total to 14. Sin City hosts another contest tomorrow at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 8-4

Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 5, HR (1), 2 RBI, R
Xavier Paul - 0 for 4, R, BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 2 for 3, 2B, R, 2 BB

Jon Meloan - 0.1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's

Jacksonville lead all the way and got a solid pitching performance from Guiseppe Norrito. Norrito, making just his 2nd start of the year, allowed 3 runs over 6.1 innings. 2 of those runs came in the 7th, when he allowed a leadoff HR which was followed by a double, a single and a sac fly. Wesley Wright came in and induced 2 groundball outs to stop the bleeding. However, after cruising through the 8th, Wright ran into trouble in the 9th. He got the first out on a flyball, and after a single and a wild pitch, he struck the next man out for the 2nd out of the inning. But a walk and a single was followed by a wild pitch that scored a run and another walk to load the bases. So, due to the absurd save rule, Meloan came in with the tying run on deck and got a flyout to left to record his 6th save of the season. Hu muscled up for his 1st shtonk of the year. Paul drew a walk and Raglani drew a pair to go along with his 11th double. Raglani now has a ridiculous 34 walks in 46 games (149 at bats). Dunlap had the night off. The Suns' bats hope to stay hot in Tennessee tomorrow at 4:15pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 11-8

Jamie Hoffman - 2 for 4, 2 RBI, R, BB, CS
Blake DeWitt - 4 for 5, 2 2B's, K
Lucas May - 0 for 5, RBI, 2 K's
Russell Mitchell - 0 for 4, R, BB
Travis Denker - 1 for 5, R
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 4 for 5, RBI, 3 R

The 66ers got offense from some unlikely sources as both Ivan De Jesus Jr and Blake DeWitt had 4 hit efforts. Both raised their averages to over .250 while DeWitt added doubles #10 and #11. Hoffman raised his average to .318. May played his first game since the 22nd and showed some rust. He's 0 for his last 14. Denker has reached base in 7 of his last 8. Mitchell has reached base in his last 11. Starter Francisco Felix earned his first victory in High A, though he gave up 3 runs in 5 innings. Matthew Gomez de Segura allowed 5 runs while recording just 1 out. But Kyle Wilson tossed 3.2 scoreless for his 2nd save. The Empire plays the rubber game with Lancaster tomorrow at 5pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 13-6

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, RBI, R, BB, K
Josh Bell - 1 for 4, HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K's, 3 E's
Preston Mattingly - 3 for 5, 2B, 3B, HR (2), 2 RBI, 3 R
Scott Van Slyke - 3 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI, R, 2 K's

It was a memorable night for Preston Mattingly, who fell a single short of hitting for the cycle. Mattingly hit his 5th double of the year in the 2nd, followed by his 2nd shtonk to leadoff the 4th and his 2nd triple in the 7th. He came up to lead off the 9th and hit a flare into short right field but the second baseman spoiled his chance to make history. Still, a great performance for Mattingly who got back on the good side of the Mendoza line. Josh Bell has been hot at the plate of late, and how has 3 HR in his last 5 games. His OPS from April to May has improved from .554 to .970. However, his play in the field has been a different story. Bell's 3 errors tonight raises his season total to 17. He needs to really work on his defense if he wants to avoid a move to 1B. Van Slyke stayed hot, smacking his 9th double and raising his average to .277. The Loons' brief series in Lansing ends tomorrow at 4:05pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/24/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 5-3

James Loney - 1 for 3, BB, K
Matt Kemp - 2 for 3, RBI, R, BB, K, SB

DJ Houlton's gem was spoiled as the bullpen allowed 5 runs in the 8th and Vegas dropped the series finale. Houlton spun 6 scoreless, scattering 5 hits while striking out half a dozen. The offense gave him 2 runs in the 1st and added another in the top of the 8th before the pen imploded. Houlton allowed back to back singles in the 7th before being relieved by Matt White. But the scoring chance was spoiled when a bunt attempt forced the runner out at 3rd and a double play ended the inning. But White struggled in the 8th, allowing back to back singles before being replaced by Eric Hull. A wild pitch was followed by 3 straight singles and an intentional walk to load the bases. With the score tied 3-3, Hull struck out the next batter for the 1st out of the inning before being replaced by Matt Riley. But a possible double play ball was thrown away by Luis Maza, leading to the game-winning runs. The action returns to Sin City as the 51's host Portland tomorrow at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 8-2

Chin Lung Hu - 3 for 4, 3 R, SB
Xavier Paul - 2 for 3, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB
Cory Dunlap - 1 for 4, 2 K's
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K's, OF Assist

Jon Meloan - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's

The Suns led all the way, behind a strong performance from Eric Cyr. The southpaw allowed 2 runs over 6 innings, earning his 4th win of the season. Luis Gonzalez hasnt allowed a run since being demoted from Triple A. Jon Meloan came in for a non-save situation and was dominant, lowering his ERA to 3.22. Hu stole his 8th base and raised his average to .353. Paul had his 1st multi-hit game in the last 10 and is now hitting .285. Dunlap has reached base in 9 of his last 10 and Raglani drew his league-leading 32nd walk. Jacksonville stays in Tennessee for tomorrow's contest at 4:15pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 8-1

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 4, 2B
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, BB, SB
Travis Denker - 0 for 3, BB, K

Jesus Castillo - 6 IP, 5 Hits, ER, 0 BB, 3 K's

Another strong pitching performance was spoiled as the 66ers dropped the 5th of their last 6. Castillo lowered his ERA to 3.91 before coming out of a tie game. Reliever Mario Alvarez allowed another run in the 7th and 6 more in the 8th. Jamie Hoffman hit his 11th double, while Russell Mitchell stole his 2nd base. Denker drew yet another walk. De Jesus Jr pinch ran for Mitchell but was caught stealing. Lucas May did not play. The Empire plays Lancaster again tomorrow at 6:30pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 3-2

Josh Bell - 2 for 3, R, BB
Preston Mattingly - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, R, K
Kenley Jansen - 1 for 3, BB

Clayton Kershaw - 4 IP, 3 Hits, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 7 K's

Kershaw had an early exit on the way to his 2nd loss of the season. Kershaw started strong but struggled in the 3rd and 4th innings. In the 3rd, he allowed a single between a flyout and a strikeout. But a passed ball, a groundball and a fielding error by Clayton led to a run. He then walked the bases loaded and struck out the last batter. In the 4th, a leadoff single was followed by 2 strikeouts. A stolen base and an error sent the runner to 3rd and he promptly stole home. A walk was followed by a groundout and Kershaw's day was done. The walk total is concerning, but listening to the announcer gives some credence to Kershaw's supposed control issues as Clayton isnt missing by much and may be getting squeezed on occasion. The Loons tried to mount a comeback, as Josh Bell's leadoff single in the 9th was cashed in by Preston Mattingly's 4th double and P Mat scored on a sac fly. Jansen raised his average over .100 and drew his 7th walk. Great Lakes plays a brief 2 game series in Lansing starting tomorrow at 4:05pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/23/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 6-0

Matt Kemp - 2 for 5, 2B, K

Hong Chih Kuo - 4 IP, 4 Hits, 0 R, BB, 4 K's

Hong Chih Kuo and Eric Stults combined for the 51's 2nd shutout win of the season. Kuo, who had spent a few days up with the big club, made 62 pitches over his 4 innings of work; 40 were strikes. He's expected to take Brett Tomko's place in the major league rotation, according to Vin Scully. Stults, making his first relief appearance of the season, allowed just 1 hit over 5 innings. He was coming off a very successful start in which he gave up just 1 run over 6 innings. He earned his 4th win of the year. Kemp hit his 10th double. Loney did not play. Vegas finishes their series with Tacoma tomorrow at 6:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 16-11

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 2
Xavier Paul - 1 for 2, E
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 3, R, 2 BB
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 2, HR (8), 2 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB, CS

Justin Orenduff - 2.2 IP, 9 Hits , 7 R (3 ER), 2 BB

A shutout in the PCL followed by a slugfest in the SL? That might be a sign of the apocolypse. Tennessee scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd, then dropped a 5 spot in the 3rd, followed by 7 more in the 4th. All of Orenduff's earned runs came on 2 HR, doubling his season total. He also earned his first decision of the season. Brian Akin had the worst of it, giving up 8 ER in 2.1 innings. Mark Alexander gave up a run in 2 innings of work, and utility man Jimmy Rohan struck out 2 in a hitless frame. Dunlap and Raglani combined for 5 walks; Dunlap now has 21 walks and 21 strikeouts. Raglani leads the league with 31 free passes and raised his OPS back over .900. Hu went hitless and was replaced early, leading me to beleive he's playing with a boo boo. Paul committed his 2nd error of the year and is hitting .278. The Suns look to rebound tomorrow at 4:15pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 16-8

Blake DeWitt - 4 for 5, RBI, R, CS
Jamie Hoffman - 3 for 4, 2 RBI, R, SB
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 5, 2 K's, E
Travis Denker - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, K, SB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 2 for 5, 2 R

Alberto Bastardo made his first appearance since April 10th and lasted only 2 innings. He allowed 7 ER, including 2 HR, on 9 hits. His ERA on the season is 16.43. Cory Wade allowed 2 ER over 5 innings, while Jacobo Meque gave up 6 ER without recording an out. David Pfeiffer allowed a run in an inning. Blake DeWitt raised his average .016 points to .236. Hoffman also had a nice performance, stealing his 7th base in 10 tries. De Jesus Jr raised his average to .238. Mitchell and Denker had a hit, though Mitchell also committed his 3rd error. Lucas May had the night off. The Empire plays a day game tomorrow, starting at 11am.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 4-2

Trayvon Robinson - 2 for 5, RBI, R, K, E
Josh Bell - 1 for 3, BB, K
Scott Van Slyke - 1 for 3, 2B, BB

Starter Cody White allowed 3 runs, 2 of which were earned, over 5 innings. He lost his 5th game of the season but his ERA is still just 2.91. Miguel Sanfler tossed a scoreless 8th while walking 2 and striking out 1. Van Slyke has been hot of late, hitting his 4th double in his last 6 games. Robinson moved his average up to .252. Bell is hitting .368 in his last 10 games. Preston Mattingly did not play. Loons' lefty Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to start tomorrow's contest at 4pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/22/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 8-6

James Loney - 2 for 4, RBI, BB
Matt Kemp - 1 for 4, RBI, R, 2 K's, SB, HBP, OF Assist

Yhency Brazoban - 1.2 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, K

Miguel Pinango got his 3rd start in Triple A, but didnt enjoy the same success he had in the first 2. Pinango allowed 5 Runs, 4 of which were earned, in 4 innings. However, the 51's offense picked him up, led by Luis Maza's 4 hit performance. Delwyn Young went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, and he now has 15 on the season while batting .288. Matt Kemp only collected 1 hit but had a key defensive play in the 8th inning, throwing a runner out at home to end the inning. James Loney has reached base safely in 9 of his last 10 games. Yhency Brazoban earned his 3rd save, lowering his ERA to 1.98. Vegas again faces off with Tacoma tomorrow at 6:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville had the day off

High A - Inland Empire lost 19-7

Jamie Hoffman - 2 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI, R, K, CS
Russell Mitchell - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, RBI, R, K, HBP
Lucas May - 0 for 5, 2 K's, PB
Travis Denker - 2 for 3, HR (4), RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 4, E
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 3, BB, K

James McDonald - 3 IP, 7 Hits, 4 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 3 K's

To put it gently, it just wasnt a good day for 66ers' pitching. James McDonald, who had allowed 3 ER in his last 5 outings, gave up 2 ER in 3 innings and was pulled. He gave up all the runs in the 3rd inning, though he struggled in the first but wriggled out of a bases loaded jam by inducing a double play. In the 3rd, he allowed a triple, struck the next batter out then gave up just his 2nd HR of the year. Following a walk and a popup, DeWitt's fielding error led to a single and a run scoring double, before McDonald recorded his 3rd strikeout to end the inning and his outing. Reliever Jordan Pratt struggled mightily, allowing 3 consecutive 2 out walks before ending the 4th inning without allowing a run. In the 5th, he wasnt so lucky. The first batter popped out, and Pratt proceded to allow 7 consecutive hitters to reach base, all of whom scored. Matthew Gomez de Segura allowed 6 runs of his own, while David Pfeiffer allowed just 2. At the plate, Russell Mitchell stayed hot, collecting doubles #16 and #17. Denker hit his 4th HR and walked. Hoffman hit his 10th double. Lucas May and Ivan De Jesus Jr stayed cold, while raised his average to .220. The Empire looks to bounce back tomorrow at 6:30pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 10-7

Trayvon Robinson - 2 for 5, 3B, 3 RBI, R, K
Josh Bell - 3 for 5, 2 2B's, HR (4), 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 K's, SB
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 5, R, K
Scott Van Slyke - 3 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2 R

Josh Wall - 5 IP, 8 Hits, 7 R (5 ER), BB, 4 K's

Josh Wall struggled yet again, but was gifted his 2nd win by the Loons' offense. Wall's ERA jumped to 6.00, but only walked 1 batter, gave up just his 2nd HR and recorded 8 groundball outs. The downside is he also threw 2 wild pitches and hit 2 batters. Oh, and he gave up 5 ER. Anyways, Josh Bell stayed hot, hitting his 2nd HR in as many days and increasing his hitting streak to 8 games. He also raised his doubles total to 7 and stole his 3rd base. Robinson hit his 2nd triple, while Van Slyke clubbed his 7th two-bagger. Mattingly is still struggling to reach the Mendoza line, lifting his average to .180. Great Lakes hopes to stay hot as they return to action tomorrow at 4pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/21/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 8-3

Tony Abreu - 1 for 5, HR (2), RBI, R
James Loney - 1 for 4, 2 K's
Matt Kemp - 1 for 3, RBI, R, K

Greg Miller - 1 IP, 1 Hit, 1 R (0 ER), 3 BB, K

William Juarez was roughed up in his Vegas debut, allowing 6 ER in 3.1 innings. Juarez, acquired from the D Backs in the Shawn Green trade, had posted a 4.79 ERA in Jacksonville before his promotion. He was relieved by BJ LaMura, who allowed a run in his 1.2 innings of relief, before Miller came in. Miller induced a leadoff flyout and then allowed a single. He had the runner picked off but Tomas Perez missed the catch and was safe at 2nd. Following a popup, Miller walked the next 3 batters, forcing in a run. He struck out Jeff Clement to end the inning. After allowing 1 walk over 2 innings in his last appearance, Miller again took a step backward tonight. It's getting frustrating watching him implode again and again. Abreu hit his 2nd HR of the season, but his average dropped to a mere .347. Loney is at .255 while Kemp is hitting .265. The 51's play an abrupt day game tomorrow at 11:35am.

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2007_05_21_lvgaaa_tacaaa_1&t=g_box&did=milb

Double A - Jacksonville won 4-3

Xavier Paul - 0 for 3, R, BB, K, SB, OF Assist
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, R, K
Cory Dunlap - 1 for 3, RBI, BB

Zach Hammes - 3 IP, 5 Hits, ER, BB, 3 K's
Jon Meloan - 2 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's

A pair of firsts occured today as Zach Hammes made his first start of the season and Ramon Troncoso made his Double A debut. Hammes was good but not great, only working 3 innings. I believe it may have had something to do with Juarez's promotion. Carolina struck first in the first but the Suns struck back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1-1. Jacksonville took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd but Troncoso struggled in his first taste of Southern League action, surrendering the lead after giving up 2 ER in 2 innings. After 2 perfect innings from Wesley Wright, Jon Meloan came in for the 8th and hit the first batter he faced, though he was caught stealing. Meloan struck out the next 2 and the Suns went to the bottom of the 8th trailing 3-2. Juan Gonzalez walked to lead it off and Raglani popped out to 2nd. Dunlap walked and was replaced by Chin Lung Hu. Marshall McDougall followed with a fly ball single to right field which plated the tying run in Gonzalez and sent Hu to 3rd. AJ Ellis followed with a sac fly that put Jacksonville in the lead 4-3. David Nicholson walked but Jimmy Rohan struck out to end the inning. Meloan returned for the bottom of the 9th, striking out the first 2 batters. He struggled to put the game away, walking the next 2 batters, but got a fly ball to left field that ended the Suns' comeback win. Dunlap is 10 for 26 with a pair of doubles, a pair of HR and 7 walks since returning from his suspension. Hu hasnt started the last 2 games, but he was healthy enough to pinch run and will hopefully return to the starting lineup tomorrow. The Suns take a travel day tomorrow to head off for a 10 game road trip, starting in Tennessee on Wednesday at 4:15pm.

High A - Inland Empire was off and will play Lancaster Tuesday at 6:30pm

Low A - Great Lakes won 7-4

Trayvon Robinson - 2 for 4, 2 R, BB, 2 SB
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 5
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3, 2 BB, 2 K's

The Loons led all the way and ran wild on the way to their series opening win. Starter Arismendy Castillo was strong in his 2nd start of the year, allowing just a single run over 6 innings. Reliever Jesus Rodriguez struggled, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings. And Miguel Ramirez picked up his 2nd save. On offense, the Loons stole 6 bases: 3 from Eduardo Perez (Who went 2 for 3 with 2 walks), 2 from Robinson and 1 from Adolfo Gonzalez. Robinson is now successful in 10 of his 11 stolen base attempts. Mattingly and Van Slyke went hitless, though Van Slyke picked up a pair of walks, giving him 6 in his last 7 games. Mattingly is hitting .179 and is hitting just .150 over his last 10 games. Great Lakes stays in Burlington for 3 more, playing again tomorrow night at 4pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/20/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 7-2

Tony Abreu - 0 for 3, SB
Matt Kemp - 0 for 3, K
James Loney - 0 for 2, BB, K

Rain shortened the series finale to 6 innings, and it may have been a boon for the 51's bullpen. Starter Spike Lundberg lasted just 4 innings after allowing 3 ER, and reliever Casey Hoorelbeke gave up 4 more in an inning work. Delwyn Young smashed his 5th HR of the season and is batting .400 over his last 10 games. Tony Abreu stole his 5th bag, while James Loney drew his 20th walk. Matt Kemp is 7 for his last 40. Vegas heads to Tacoma for 4, starting tomorrow at 6:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 9-4

Xavier Paul - 0 for 2
Cory Dunlap - 2 for 3, HR (4), 2 RBI, R, BB
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, HR (7), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K's

Mike Megrew - 3 IP, 6 Hits, 6 R (5 ER), 2 BB, 4 K's

Lefty Mike Megrew struggled, tossing less than 5 innings in his 3rd consecutive start. Megrew also allowed 2 HR, doubling his season total. His May ERA is 7.50. Xavier Paul came out of the game early, though I'm not sure of the reason. Dunlap and Raglani each homered. Dunlap has reached safely in his last 9 starts and is batting .391 since returning from his 7 game suspension. Raglani's shtonk is his only hit in his past 15 at bats. Chin Lung Hu did not play. Carolina, as well as the Suns, leave town after tomorrow's 9:05am contest.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2007_05_20_cmcaax_jaxaax_1

High A - Inland Empire won 4-2

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 5, 2B, RBI
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, BB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 4, K
Blake DeWitt - 2 for 4, R

Javy Guerra - 6 IP, 4 Hits, ER, 4 BB, 6 K's

While Guerra's control wavered, he had one of his better outings this year. Interesting factoid on Guerra: he's holding lefties to a .218 batting average, but righties are smoking him at a .353 clip. Still, Guerra now has 40 strikeouts and 33 walks in 41.1 innings. Hoffman clubbed his 9th double of the season and DeWitt had his 4th multi-hit performance in his last 10 games. Mitchell has reached base safely in his past 10 games, while De Jesus Jr continues to struggle and is currently hitting .238. After a day off tomorrow, the first place 66ers head to Lancaster for a 5 game series.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 6-3

Josh Bell - 1 for 4, HR (3), RBI, R, E
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, R, SB
Trayvon Robinson - 0 for 2, K

Miguel Sanfler - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's

Loons' Lefty starter Thomas Melgarejo struggled but the offense kept him in the game. The Loons led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th, but after a leadoff strikeout, Melgarejo allowed a double and a walk. He was replaced by a new member of the bullpen, Yulkin German, who proceded to walk the bases loaded, hit a batter to plate a run, and walk another run in before allowing a 2 run single. Garrett White relieved him, allowed a single to reload the bases, but struck the next 2 batters out. Still, the damage had been done and Great Lakes lost. Bell hit his 3rd HR of the season, but also committed his 14th error. Mattingly stole his 6th base in 7 attempts. Trayvon Robinson is just 2 for his last 13. Great Lakes heads to Burlington for 4, starting tomorrow night at 4pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 5-3

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 3, BB, E
Xavier Paul - 0 for 4, K
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 1

Carolina took an early lead, scoring a single run in the first. The Suns answered back to tie the game in the bottom of the 2nd. The Mudcats scored again in the top of the 4th and again, the Suns tied it up in the bottom of the 5th. But a single run in the top of the 7th was countered with 3 by Jacksonville in the bottom of the inning. Solo HR from John Lindsey and Marshall McDougall accounted for the Suns first 2 runs, and both scored again along with Dunlap in the bottom of the 7th. Hu drew yet another walk but also committed his 7th error of the season. Paul is 4 for his last 20. Dunlap has 17 free passes on the year. Raglani only had a pinch hit appearance. Jacksonville hosts Carolina again tomorrow at 12:05pm.

David Pfeiffer recorded 2 outs. On offense, Mitchell stayed hot, hitting his 2nd HR in as many days. Denker hit double #7 and drew walk #12, raising his average to .350. Minor League Recap - 5/18/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 6-1

Tony Abreu - 4 for 5, 3B, RBI
Matt Kemp - 0 for 5, R, SB
James Loney - 1 for 4, 2B, R, BB, 2 K's

The 51's took advantage of 4 Portland errors and a brilliant outing from Eric Stults in this win. Stults, who had given up at least 6 ER in his last 4 starts, allowed just 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 7. He earned his 3rd win of the year. Abreu was the offensive MVP tonight, collecting his 5th multi-hit game in the last 10 and raising his average back to .360. He also collected his 5th triple of the season. Kemp stole his 4th base and Loney hit his 12th double. Delwyn Young got his 13th double of the season and is hitting .372 over his last 10 games. Vegas has two day games over the weekend with Portland, continuing tomorrow at 2:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 6-3

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 3, R, 2 BB, K, SB, E
Xavier Paul - 1 for 4, R, 2 K's
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 1, 3 BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 3, K

Jon Meloan - 1.2 IP, Hit, ER, 2 BB, K

The Suns went 6 innings without collecting a hit, but Eric Cyr's strong performance kept them in the game. Cyr allowed just 1 ER on 1 hit over 6.1 innings, taking a 1-0 lead into the 7th. But Jon Meloan, had his 2nd difficult outing in a row, blowing his 3rd save of the season and Jacksonville saw their lead turn into a 3-1 deficit. But the Suns came back in the bottom of the 8th, as Juan Gonzalez and Xavier Paul singled, followed by a Dunlap walk to load the bases. Marshall McDougall doubled to tie the game, and after an intentional walk to again load the bases, AJ Ellis hit another 2 run double to put the Suns ahead. Wesley Wright came in for the save, allowing a single but no runs and striking out 2. Hu drew 2 more walks, giving him 10 on the year. Dunlap drew 3 and now has 16 in 31 games. Raglani and Paul struggled, and are hitting .289 and .244 respectively. Paul has just 4 hits in his last 6 games, while Raglani is 0 for his last 10. Jacksonville again hosts Carolina tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 9-8

Jamie Hoffman - 0 for 5, R, 2 BB, 2 K's
Lucas May - 2 for 5, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, K
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 7, 2B, HR (5), 4 RBI, R, 2 K's, E
Travis Denker - 1 for 2, K
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 4 for 5, 2 2B's, R, 2 BB, K
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 7, RBI, R, K

A 13 inning affair, the 66ers stayed in this slugfest by mounting a late comeback. They took a 3-0 lead early, but the Modesto Nuts (Hehe) chipped away by scoring 2 in the 2nd and another in the 5th to tie the game. The Empire took a 1 run advantage in the top of the 6th, only to surrender 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. Another Empire run in the 7th brought them within 2 and Mitchell's 8th inning blast put them ahead by 1. But Mitchell's fielding error was followed by a 2 out single that evened the score and sent the game to extra innings. Finally, in the bottom of the 13th, Modesto loaded the bases and took the game on a walk-off single. De Jesus Jr had his best game in recent memory, raising his average to .250 and his doubles total to 8. Mitchell hit HR #5 and double #15. May continues drawing walks, and is up to 16 on the season. DeWitt's batting average is creeping towards the Mendoza line, sitting for the moment at .217. The Empire can sleep in tomorrow, as their next contest with Modesto starts tomorrow night at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 9-2

Josh Bell - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, R, BB, SB
Preston Mattingly - 1 for 5, 2 RBI, K, SB
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 4, R, BB, K

An offensive explosion from the Loons is about as common as Juan Pierre hitting the ball on the ground, but I guess anything's possible. Clayton Kershaw was supposed to start the game but was scratched in favor of Cody White at the last minute. I dont know the reason but I expect Kershaw to make an appearance this weekend. It was back and forth in the first few innings, as the Loons took a first inning lead, gave it up in the 2nd and tied the game in 3rd. But Great Lakes scored a pair in both the 6th and 7th along with 3 more in the 9th to blow out Kane County. Bell stole his 2nd base and drew another walk, while Mattingly stole his 5th base playing his 2nd game at second base. Van Slyke had an off night but managed a walk. SS Francisco Lizarraga was a triple short of the cycle, while James Peterson and Eduardo Perez also had 3 hits including a HR. The Loons stay in Kane County over the weekend, playing tomorrow at 2pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/17/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 6-1

Tony Abreu - 1 for 4, 3B, RBI, R, BB, K
James Loney - 1 for 4, BB, K

Greg Miller - 2 IP, Hit, 0 R, BB, K
Yhency Brazoban - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's

Starter Miguel Pinango made his 2nd appearance in Triple A and earned his 2nd win. He allowed 1 run on a solo homer, while walking 4 and striking out 3 in 6 innings. Greg Miller, who has struggled lately, came in for a 2 inning stint and did much better than he has been. While he allowed a leadoff double, wild pitched the runner to 3rd and walked the next batter, Miller calmed down by striking out the next guy and inducing an inning ending double play. He began his 2nd inning by hitting the leadoff batter, but got another double play and a grounder to short. He made 26 pitches in 2 innings, 15 of which were strikes. Brazoban came in to close it out and worked a perfect 9th. Abreu and Loney each had a hit and a walk, with Abreu collecting his 4th triple of the year. He's batting .346 while Loney is at .258. Matt Kemp did not play. Vegas continues their series with Portland tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 3-1

Chin Lung Hu - 2 for 4, 2B, 2 R
Xavier Paul - 0 for 3
Cory Dunlap - 2 for 4, HR (3), 2 RBI, R
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 2, BB, K

Justin Orenduff - 5 IP, 5 Hits, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K's

It was a pitcher's duel for most of the night. Orenduff, making his 6th start of the year, worked a season long 5 shutout innings as he lowered his ERA to 2.49. The Suns gave him a lead to work with in the 4th, when Chin Lung Hu's single was followed by a Dunlap hit and a sac fly from Marshall McDougall. Unfortunately, Orenduff would get a no-decision when reliever Brian Akin allowed a solo HR to Brad McCann, tying the game at 1 a piece. Carolina would threaten late, as they led off the 8th with back to back singles before Luis Gonzalez replaced Akin and retired the next 3 batters. Then in the top of the 9th, Gonzalez struck out the leadoff man and allowed a 1 out single. The next batter popped out but another single was followed by a walk to load the bases. But Gonzo pulled through, striking out the last batter to end the threat. In the bottom of the 9th, Chin Lung Hu led off with a double, his 17th of the season. Xavier Paul sacrificed him to 3rd and it came down to Cory Dunlap to get him in. All the Suns needed was a fly ball and they got one that carried over the left field fence as C Diddy hit an opposite field game winning HR. Dunlap's suspension seems to have had a positive effect, as he's gone 8 for 16 since his return. Hu raised his average to .361, while Paul and Raglani's hitless efforts lowered their marks to .291 and .250 respectively. Jacksonville hopes to build off its late inning heroics tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 5-0

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 3, RBI, R, K
Lucas May - 0 for 4
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 4, 3B, 2 RBI, R, K
Travis Denker - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 3, BB
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 4, R, 2 K's

Another brilliant pitching performance led to the 66ers' second shutout victory in a row. Cory Wade, who is now a perfect 6-0 on the season, allowed just 4 hits and no walks over 6.1 innings while striking out 5. This was Wade's 2nd start of the year. The Empire's offense struck early, tallying 3 runs in the first inning and adding single scores in the 2nd and 7th innings. Hoffman's average stands at .331, while Mitchell clubbed his 2nd triple of the year. DeWitt and Denker had a hit a piece, though Blake is hitting .221 while Travis is hitting .347. May continues his downward spiral, hitting .189 in his last 10 contests. The Empire hits the road for an 8 game road trip, heading to Modesto for 3 starting tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 6-3

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, 3B, RBI, R, K
Josh Bell - 1 for 3, BB, K
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, 4 K's
Scott Van Slyke - 3 for 4, 2 2B's, RBI, R

Josh Wall - 3.1 IP, 7 Hits, 6 ER, 4 BB, K

Wall walked a season high 4 in a season low 3.1 innings as he lost his 5th decision. This was Wall's worst outing since his season debut, in which he also walked more than he struck out. His strikeout to walk ratio is still 30:11. However, his ERA is up to 5.56. Mattingly had another poor showing at the plate, but interestingly enough, was playing 2nd base. It seems the Dodgers just might have finally given in to the feeling that Mattingly isnt going to be a shortstop. Bell drew yet another walk, and is actually hitting .290 with 5 free passes in his last 10 games. Scott Van Slyke is also on the upswing, hitting .324 in his last 10 with 3 doubles. Robinson smacked his 1st triple of the year but is still batting just .242. The Loons play game 2 of their 10 game road trip tomorrow at 3:30pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/16/07

Triple A - Vegas had the day off

Double A - Jacksonville lost 9-2

Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 2, 3B, 2 R, BB
Xavier Paul - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Cory Dunlap - 1 for 3, K
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 2, K

It was a rain shortened affair, ending after 5 and a half innings as the Suns were blown out. William Juarez, who pitched all 5 innings for Jacksonville, allowed all 9 ER on 13 hits, including 3 HR. Hu upped his average back to .358, drawing his 8th walk and clubbing his 3rd triple. Paul doubled for the 7th time this season, while Dunlap collected a single. Raglani went hitless for the 2nd straight game and is now batting .254 but still boasts a .921 OPS. Jacksonville returns home for 5 with Carolina, starting tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 5-0

Jamie Hoffman - 2 for 3, HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 R, K, HBP
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 4, 2B
Lucas May - 1 for 3, BB
Russell Mitchell - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, SB
Travis Denker - 0 for 3, K
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K, CS

James McDonald - 7 IP, 3 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K's

Another brilliant outing from McDonald led the 66ers to their 4th shutout win of the year. McDonald, winning his 3rd and lowering his ERA to 2.91, has allowed just 3 ER in his last 5 starts. In that time, he's struck out 35 and walked 6 in 31 innings. He's really having a breakout year, and in the Cally league no-less. Jamie Hoffman singled and scored on a wild pitch in the 1st, then hit a 3 run bomb in the 2nd. His line is now .331/.377/.508 and has collected 3 multi-hit games in his last 4 starts. May drew yet another walk, giving him 7 in his last 10 games. He's batting just .189 in that time. De Jesus Jr is also increasing his walk total, giving him 17 in 37 games. Mitchell drew 2 free passes and also stole his first base of the season. DeWitt smacked double #9 but is hitting just .220. The Empire finishes up with Stockton tomorrow at 11am.

Low A - Great Lakes had the day off

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Minor League Recap - 5/15/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 9-8

Tony Abreu - 2 for 5, 2B, 2 R, E
James Loney- 2 for 4, 2 2B's, 3 RBI, R
Matt Kemp - 0 for 1

After the 51's fell behind 5-0 after 4 innings, the game seemed out of reach. But 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th brought Vegas back within 1. However, just as soon as they pushed themselves back into the game, New Orleans pulled away by scoring another pair of runs in the top of the 7th. But Vegas fought back, plating 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. However, New Orleans scored another pair in the top of the 8th to lead 9-7. Still, the 51's tried to comeback in the bottom of the 9th. Tony Abreu grounded out to start the inning, but Larry Bigbie singled and James Loney doubled him in to place the tying run in scoring position. But it was all for not, as Mitch Jones and Kelly Stinnett struck out to end the game. Loney and Abreu now have doubled 11 times on the year. Kemp only made an appearance as a pinch hitter. A pleasant surprise of late has been Delwyn Young, who is 8 for his last 13 with 5 doubles and a homer. He's hitting .405 in his last 10 games. The 51's head to Portland to kick off an 8 game road trip, starting tomorrow at 4:05pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 13-0

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 4, K
Xavier Paul - 1 for 2, BB
Cory Dunlap - 0 for 1
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 3

Mike Megrew - 4 IP, 9 Hits, 8 ER, 3 BB, 4 K's
Zach Hammes - 2 IP, 4 Hits, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K's

The Suns were thoroughly dominated, being held to just 1 hit and 2 walks. Megrew had another disappointing outing, earning his 2nd loss and raising his ERA to 4.57. He's been very up and down this year, having 2 starts where he tossed 7 shutout innings while also having 2 starts where he allowed at least 5 ER. Hopefully as the season progresses, Megrew will settle in and find some consistency. Hammes didnt have the best 23rd birthday, allowing 2 ER and seeing his ERA jump to 3.12. Still, Hammes has struck out 8 and walked none in just under 9 innings. Paul and John Lindsey were the only runners to reach base safely. Paul drew his 18th walk and now sports a line of .296/.373/.451. Not bad for a 22 year old in the pitcher friendly Southern league. Hu's average dipped to .356, while Raglani's is almost .100 points lower at .258. Dunlap only had a pinch hit appearance. Tomorrow is getaway day for the Suns, who leave town after their 7:35am meeting with Mobile.

High A - Inland Empire lost 11-1

Jamie Hoffman - 2 for 3, R, BB, SB
Lucas May - 1 for 3, BB
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 3, RBI, HBP
Travis Denker - 0 for 4
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 2 for 4

Javy Guerra - 2.2 IP, 7 Hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, K

It was another difficult start for Guerra, who walked more than he struck out for the 4th time this season. He also hit 2 batters and saw his ERA raise above 5. Still, it's early in the season and he's young blah blah blah. Hoffman looks like he's back on track, raising his average to .322 while stealing his 6th base. De Jesus Jr also had a multi-hit game, though he's hitting just .229 over his last 10 games. May and Mitchell each had a hit, and are batting .284 and .320. James McDonald gets the nod tomorrow at 7:05pm.

James Loney - 1 for 5, K

Yhency Brazoban - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, K

DJ Houlton allowed a season high 5 earned runs, but the offense picked him up and got him his 4th win. Houlton allowed 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Casey Hoorelbeke, Matt White and Yhency Brazoban combined for 4 innings of 1 hit ball. Brazoban picked up his 2nd save and has 10 K's to 3 BB in 10 innings for Vegas. Abreu hit his 10th double, Kemp his 9th. Loney's batting .252. The 51's finish up their series with New Orleans tomorrow at 10:30am.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 10-2

Chin Lung Hu - 1 for 4, E
Xavier Paul - 1 for 4, HR (4), RBI, R, K
Cory Dunlap - 2 for 4, 2B, R
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 3, K, E

The Suns scored a run in the top of the 1st, but it all went downhill from there. Alvis Ojeda allowed 7 runs (6 ER), and the defense didnt help much, committing 5 errors. Brian Akin relieved him and gave up 3 unearned runs of his own. Wesley Wright managed to get 2 scoreless frames in. Paul hit his 4th HR of the year and has reached base safely in his last 9 starts. Hu is still hitting .366. Raglani has reached base in 9 of his last 10. Dunlap is 4 for 8 with a pair of doubles since his return from a week long suspension. Game 3 of Jacksonville's series with Mobile begins tomorrow night at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 10-5

Jamie Hoffman - 0 for 5, K
Blake DeWitt - 2 for 5, R, K, SB, 2 E's
Lucas May - 1 for 2, R, 3 BB, K, PB
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 4, HR (4), 2 RBI, R
Travis Denker - 3 for 5, 2B, RBI, R, PO
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 4, K

From the highest mountain to the lowest valley, Marlon Arias lasted just 1 inning after pitching a no-hitter last time out. He allowed 3 ER on 2 hits and 3 walks before getting out of the first and he was subsequently replaced by David Pfeiffer in the 2nd. No word on why he came out but I'm assuming it's an injury. More info to follow. Mitchell hit his 4th HR and is batting .361 over his last 10 games. DeWitt collected 2 hits but committed 2 errors, numbers 6 and 7 on the season. May's batting average dropping to .283 didnt keep Stockton's staff from pitching around him, raising his season total to 12 walks. De Jesus Jr continues to struggle, as does Hoffman, and they are now hitting .226 and .312 respectively. Denker stayed hot, doubling for the 6th time this year and giving him a line of .375/.430/.545. The Empire continues their series with Stockton tomorrow night at 7:05pm.

Josh Bell - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2 E's
Carlos Santana - 0 for 3, BB, K, PB
Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, K

The Loons pulled close but came up just short. Starter Thomas Melgarejo lasted 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits, including 2 homeruns. Francisco Felix, who leads the Midwest League in ERA, came in and tossed 2.2 innings of 1 hit ball. Garrett White added 2 scoreless innings of his own. On offense, Josh Bell continued his hot hitting and is 6 for his last 12 with 2 doubles and a shtonk. Mattingly went hitless but managed to draw a walk and steal a base. Santana also drew a walk. Robinson, who's been dropped to the 9 hole in the order, collected a single but nothing else. Francisco Lizarraga, who's hitting .300 on the year, clubbed his 7th double of the season and stole 2 bases including home plate. Bridger Hunt also had a pair of hits. Great Lakes concludes their 2 game set with West Michigan tomorrow at 4pm.

James Loney - 0 for 4, 2 K's

Hong Chih Kuo - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's

The 51's were shut down by Mets' prospect Phil Humber, who allowed just 1 ER over 7 innings. That run was scored by Spike Lundberg, a relief pitcher, when his double was picked up by Matt Kemp's 8th of the year. Loney's average is down to .254 and he's hitting just .229 in his last 10 games. Kuo made his 2nd appearance in 3 nights, lowering his ERA to 3.18 and raising his strikeout total to 19 in 11.1 innings. It appears that the Dodgers' brass feels the only way he'll make it to the bigs is in a relief role, so I assume they're grooming him as such. The series with New Orleans continues tomorrow at 7:11pm.

The Suns continued a rained out game in the first contest, where they already had established a 2-0 advantage in the 2nd inning. The scoring continued, as the Suns added 4 more runs to take a commanding 6-0 lead. But after Giuseppe Norrito tossed 5 shutout innings, the bullpen let Jax down. Mark Alexander, recently demoted from Triple A, allowed 4 ER in 1.1 innings of work to cut the lead to 6-4. With 1 out in the 8th, Jon Meloan relieved Alexander and recorded the next 2 outs without further damage. Then in the bottom of the 9th, after allowing a leadoff double, Meloan struck out the next 2 batters and the Suns were 1 out away from the win. But after allowing another double and a walk, Meloan gave up a walk-off HR to Mark Reynolds, blowing his 2nd save and earning his 2nd loss of the season. The 2nd game went much smoother, as Jacksonville scored 2 runs in the first to take an early lead. They added single runs in the 3rd and the 6th as insurance. Starter Eric Cyr allowed just 2 runs over 6 innings and Luis Gonzalez, also recently demoted from Vegas, came in for the save. Dunlap returned from his week long suspension and collected his 3rd double of the season. He and Hu did not play in the 2nd game. Paul collected a pair of hits and a pair of walks, while Raglani drew 2 free passes in Game 1 and clubbed doubles #9 and #10 in Game 2. Raglani may be very attractive to more sabermetrically inclined teams and, if his performance continues, may be trade bait at the deadline. The Suns stay in Mobile 2 more nights, playing tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 7-0

Jamie Hoffman - 2 for 5, 3B, RBI
Lucas May - 0 for 5, CS
Russell Mitchell - 3 for 4, 2B, HR (3), RBI, 2 R
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 4
Travis Denker - 2 for 4, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB

Jesus Castillo - 7 IP, 5 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's

Jesus Castillo had his best outing by far the season in the 66ers rout of Visalia. Castillo, who struggled in his last start, earned his 2nd victory of the season and worked his longest appearance this year while lowering his ERA to 4.08. Denker and Mitchell each hit their 3rd HR of the season. Mitchell was a triple shy of the cycle, while also smacking his 14th double and reaching base safely for the 9th time in his last 10 games. Denker raised his line to .361/.421/.530 and also stole his 1st base. Hoffman hit his 2nd triple and is batting .327. May and DeWitt went hitless, with DeWitt's average falling to .213. The Empire returns home for a 4 game series with Stockton, starting tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 12-5

David Sutherland - 0 for 4
Josh Bell - 3 for 4, 2B, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 R
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3, R, BB
Kenley Jansen - 0 for 3, RBI

Clayton Kershaw - 1.1 IP, 5 Hits, 7 ER, 4 BB, 2 K's
Miguel Sanfler - 2 IP, 2 Hits, ER, BB, 4 K's

Clayton Kershaw had the worst outing of his career, leading to the Loons' demise. Kershaw, who had allowed just 5 ER in his first 6 outings, more than doubled his ERA today as it rose to 3.38. Kershaw also struggled early in his last start, and he had struggled with a minor injury, but I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. The bats tried to pick him up, scoring 3 times in the 2nd and 2 more in the 3rd to cut the deficit to 1, but 4 more West Michigan runs in the 4th was too much to overcome. Josh Bell, like Russell Mitchell, came a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. However, he accounted for 3 of the Loons' 5 hits. Preston Mattingly and Trayvon Robinson did not play. Great Lakes returns home for 2 more with West Michigan, beginning tomorrow at 4pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/12/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 3-1

Matt Kemp - 2 for 5, 2B, R
James Loney - 0 for 0, IBB

Yhency Brazoban - 2 IP, Hit, ER, 0 BB, 2 K's

Miguel Pinango, who had started 5 games in Inland Empire, was skipped past Double A and made an emergency start for the 51's who handled New Orleans nicely. Pinango, who had posted an ERA of 4.61 in High A, tossed 5 innings of shutout ball while allowing just 4 hits and no walks while striking out 5. The only run allowed by the 51's came in the top of the 9th, when Yhency Brazoban gave up a solo HR. His ERA on the year is 2.00. Kemp hit his 7th double while Loney was walked intentionally after coming in as a PH. Abreu didnt play. Sin City has a nooner with the Big Easy tomorrow.

Double A - Jacksonville's game was suspended after the first inning due rain and will be made up tomorrow. The Suns had a 1-0 lead before play was stopped.

High A - Inland Empire won 10-7

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 5, 2 RBI, CS
Lucas May - 0 for 4, R, BB, 3 K's
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 2
Russell Mitchell - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 R, BB, K
Travis Denker - 3 for 5, HR (2), 2 RBI, 3 R
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB, E

After taking a 1-0 lead in the 2nd, the Visalia Oaks scored 5 runs over the next 3 innings. But the 66ers came back to tie it in the 6th. In the 7th, Visalia scored a pair to retake the lead but the Empire struck back with 4 in the 8th and 1 more in the 9th to finish off the Oaks. Denker hit his 2nd bomb while raising his average to .354. De Jesus Jr and Mitchell each doubled, while May and DeWitt went hitless. Hoffman is still struggling, though his average is a robust .324. The Empire goes for the sweep tomorrow at 1pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 3-2

Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, K
Carlos Santana - 1 for 4, RBI, K, 2 PB
Josh Bell - 1 for 4, 2 K's
Scott Van Slyke - 2 for 4, K, OF Assist
Trayvon Robinson - 2 for 4, 2B, R, 2 K's

A strong outing from Cody White was aided by 3 8th inning runs to eek out the win. White earned just his 2nd win of the year, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) over 7 innings. Jesus Rodriguez pitcked up his 3rd save with a pair of scoreless frames. Van Slyke and Robinson each had multi-hit efforts, and are hitting .244 and .241 respectively. Mattingly has been DH'ing of late, though his average is still just .198. Bell's still racking up the K's and Santana now has 8 passed balls. The Loons play the getaway game tomorrow at 11am.

Minor League Recap - 5/11/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 18-5

Tony Abreu - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K
Matt Kemp - 1 for 5, R, 2 K's, E
James Loney - 1 for 4, 2B, R, BB

Greg Miller - 0.1 IP, 0 Hits, 5 ER, 4 BB, 0 K's, Hit Batter, Balk, 2 WP
Hong Chih Kuo - 2 IP, Hit, 0 R, BB, 2 K's

It's been remarkably sad how many steps backward Greg Miller has taken over his last few starts. Ever since that relief outing, Miller hasnt been able to throw strikes. He's walked an astounding 24 batters in his last 10.2 innings, while giving up 14 earned runs. Like Miller, the season is still young, so hopefully he can turn it around. Hong Chih Kuo, on the other hand, had a fine outing and will probably return to starting. At the plate, Abreu drew his 10th and 11th walks of the season. Kemp committed his 2nd error and Loney hit his 9th double. The 51's look to reverse their fortunes with a new series against New Orleans, starting tomorrow night at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville lost 2-1

Chin Lung Hu - 2 for 3, R, BB
Xavier Paul - 0 for 2, RBI, BB, K
Anthony Raglani - 0 for 4, 3 K's

Zach Hammes - 2 IP, 3 Hits, ER, 0 BB, K

The Suns scored in the first and William Juarez pitched well, but Hammes tasted defeat for the first time this season as Jacksonville lost a close one. For Hammes, it was his 1st loss this season, allowing his 1st run of the season. Juarez allowed just a solo HR over 7 while striking out 6 without issuing a walk. Hu's multi-hit effort raised his average back to .375 while drawing his 6th walk. If I have one criticism of Hu thus far, it's been his lack of free passes. Xavier Paul, on the other hand, drew his 15th, though he's also struck out 41 times with only 3 HR. Raglani had a forgettable night, striking out 3 times himself. While his average is down to .250, his OPS is still .936. Jacksonville heads to Alabama for a 5 game series with Mobile, starting tomorrow at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 6-1

Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 3, BB
Blake DeWitt - 2 for 5, Solo HR (3), RBI, R, K
Lucas May - 1 for 5, Solo HR (9), RBI, R
Travis Denker - 1 for 4, 2 R, BB, E
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 5, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 R

James McDonald - 7 IP, 3 Hits, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K's

A gem from McDonald and 3 HR in the 7th sealed the deal for the 66ers. McDonald, who won his 2nd game this season, has allowed just 3 ER in his last 24 innings with 6 walks and 26 strikeouts. His ERA is 3.47 on the year and he's holding opposing hitters to a .203 batting average. The scoring started in the 4th, when a Lucas May groundout was followed by a Travis Denker walk. Russell Mitchell singled and Anthony Harper struck out. With 2 gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, James Tomlin drew a walk to load the bases. Adam Godwin then hit a single to score a run and another man crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Then in the 7th, Ivan De Jesus Jr grounded out to lead off the inning. But DeWitt and May homered back to back to double the 66ers' lead. Travis Denker's single was followed by a 2 run shot from Russell Mitchell. Visalia managed to score once in the 9th but they never really had a chance. The Empire hosts Visalia again tomorrow night at 7pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 6-5

Preston Mattingly - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Carlos Santana - 1 for 4, RBI, K, E
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, K

It was a real nailbiter, as the lead changed hands 4 times before it was over. Wisconsin scored 3 in the 3rd, before the Loons plated a pair in the 4th and again in the 5th to take a 4-3 advantage. But the Rattlers scored single runs in the 6th and 7th to take back a 5-4 lead. No scoring occured in the 8th and Great Lakes managed to keep Wisconsin from scoring in the top of the 9th. With 3 outs left, Scott Van Slyke drew a leadoff walk, representing the tying run. A pitching change was followed by a sacrifice bunt that landed Van Slyke on 2nd. Bridget Hunt followed with an RBI single that tied the game. But after Matt Berezay struck out, the Loons had one last chance. Adolfo Gonzalez stepped to the plate with a chance to win the game. Bridger Hunt, trying to improve his chance of scoring, stole second. And when Gonzalez hit a grounder to 3rd, it appeared the game was headed to extra innings. But a throwing error scored Hunt and Great Lakes won. Josh Bell and Trayvon Robinson had the night off. Mattingly raised his average to .196. Santana committed his 4th error of the season. Adam Godwin threw out 2 runners. The Loons head to West Michigan for a pair starting tomorrow at 3:35pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/10/07

Triple A - Las Vegas won 17-16

Tony Abreu - 3 for 5, RBI, 2 R, BB, K, SB
Matt Kemp - 1 for 5, HR (3), RBI, 2 R, BB, K, E
James Loney - 2 for 6, K

A very exciting game that finished in 10 innings, it was a back and forth battle that came down to the wire. The 51's gave up the lead in the top of the 9th, allowing 4 runs that put Vegas down by 1 heading into the bottom of the 9th. But a leadoff double by Ken Huckaby was cashed in on a sacrifice bunt and a Tony Abreu single to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Spike Lundberg allowed a leadoff single but got the next two batters. But a hit batter was followed by a 2 out 3 run HR by Ramon Vasquez to give Oklahoma the lead. In the bottom of the 10th, Mitch Jones and Delwyn Young walked to bring the tying run to the plate in the person of Larry Bigbie. Bigbie walked to load the bases which brought up Sergio Garcia. A grounder to shortstop seemed to be a tailor-made double play ball, but the second baseman threw the ball away which scored both Jones and Young. The next batter was Kelly Stinnett, who replaced Huckaby an inning earlier, and Stinnett sent a ball over the left field wall to give the 51's a dramatic win. Abreu's 3 hit game raised his average to .360. Kemp hit his 3rd homer over the year. Loney's average was lifted to .261. Vegas concludes their series with Oklahoma tomorrow at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 12-11

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K's
Xavier Paul - 3 for 4, 3B, RBI, 3 R, BB, SB
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, R, BB

Mike Megrew - 4 IP, 5 Hits, 3 R (2 ER), BB, 4 K's

Another slugfest ended with a game-winning homerun, though this time it came in the 8th inning. Megrew pitched ok, and was relieved by Brian Akin who allowed 6 ER in 1.2 innings. He's allowed 11 ER in his last 4.1 innings. The Suns were holding on to a 9-9 tie at that point, until Wesley Wright relieved Akin and allowed 2 runs of his own. Heading into the bottom of the 8th, the Suns were down 11-9 before Juan Gonzalez reached on an error and Xavier Paul singled. John Lindsey followed with his team leading 8th HR to give the Suns a 1 run lead heading into the 9th. Recently demoted southpaw Luis Gonzalez allowed a walk and a single to put the tying and go ahead runs on base, but after a sacrifice bunt, Gonzalez induced an infield popup and struck the last batter out to secure the win. Closer Jon Meloan wasnt going to be used after closing out the previous two games. Paul smacked his 2nd triple of the year, stole his 5th base and is now hitting .299. Hu went hitless for the 2nd time in the past 3 games. Raglani has reached base safely in 9 of his last 10. Jacksonville ends their homestand tomorrow with Birmingham at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire lost 10-6

Jamie Hoffman - 0 for 4, K
Blake DeWitt - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2 R, BB, K, E
Lucas May - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2 K's, HBP
Russell Mitchell - 0 for 3, R, BB, K, HBP
Travis Denker - 3 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, K

Javy Guerra - 5.1 IP, 7 Hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's

Guerra's 2 walks was his lowest total in any appearance this season, an encouraging sign as he seems to be harnessing his stuff while recovering from injury. Brent Leach pitched a perfect 9th, lowering his ERA to 0.46. Denker hit his 5th double of the season and is hitting .343/.407/.457 through 20 games. May's average his hovering dangerously close to .300 but he did manage to collect his 10th double of the year. DeWitt hit double #9 but also committed error #5. Jamie Hoffman has cooled off, going just 1 for his last 12. Ivan De Jesus Jr got the night off. The Empire heads to Visalia for a 3 game set starting tomorrow night at 7pm.

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, 2B, R, 2 K's

Josh Wall - 5.2 IP, 5 Hits, 2 R (1 ER), BB, 8 K's, E

Another strong outing from Wall, who now boasts a 29:7 strikeout to walk ratio. Garrett White got the loss, allowing 2 runs in 3.1 innings. Preston Mattingly and Scott Van Slyke had the night off. Robinson hit his 4th double of the season. Jansen allowed passed balls #5 and #6. Bell's average dropped to under .200. Sutherland is hitting .226. The Loons' series with Wisconsin ends tomorrow at 4pm.

Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, 2 K's, SB, OF Assist

Jon Meloan - 1 IP, Hit, 0 R, 0 BB, K

Chin Lung Hu is back to his old ways, raising his batting average back up to .380 and stealing his 6th base. Raglani and Paul each threw out runners at home and both stole their 4th bases of the season. The teams were locked in a scoreless tie heading into the 6th, when starter Alvis Ojeda allowed a solo HR to give Birmingham the lead. But the Suns struck back in the 7th when Juan Gonzalez (Not that Juan Gonzalez) scored on Wilkin Ruan's double. The Suns then added 3 more in the 8th on an error and a fielder's choice. Meloan came in to close it out and earned his 2nd save in as many nights. Jacksonville stays at home with Birmingham tomorrow night at 4:05pm.

High A - Inland Empire won 2-0

Jamie Hoffman - 0 for 4
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K's
Blake DeWitt - 0 for 3
Lucas May - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, K
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 3, 2B, R

Marlon Arias - 9 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K's

Marlon Arias pitched his first career no-hitter, the second of this minor league season. Arias, who struggled last year in Columbus but had a successful stint in Vero Beach, came into the game with an ERA of 6.18. The 22 year old southpaw allowed just 2 baserunners on walks, but picked 1 of them off and faced only 1 batter over the minimum. A very proud day for Marlon Arias and the Inland Empire 66ers. Congratulations! At the plate, Arias got some run support from Russell Mitchell and Lucas May, collecting their 12th and 9th doubles of the season. Rangers prospect Edinson Volquez held the Empire to just 4 hits, but Ivan DeJesus was cashed in by May's double and Russell Mitchell scored on Mike Tomlin's single. The 66ers wrap up their series with Bakersfield tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes lost 6-4

Preston Mattingly - 1 for 4, R, K
Josh Bell - 0 for 3, 3 K's
Carlos Santana - 0 for 2, BB
Scott Van Slyke - 0 for 3

Miguel Sanfler - 2 IP, 5 Hits, 2 R (1 ER), BB, K

The Loons scored 4 runs in the first inning, taking an early lead before the game was stopped after the 2nd due to rain. Starter Thomas Melgarejo did not return after the delay, and reliever Michael Gardner came in for the Loons. After wriggling out of a 3rd inning jam, Gardner allowed a solo HR to begin the 4th and the next 4 batters reached base before Gardner was pulled after allowing 3 runs. Joe Jones replaced him, walked the bases loaded and got a double play that scored the tying run. No more scoring would occur until the 9th inning, when Sanfler gave up a leadoff single and the next batter reached on a throwing error by second baseman Adolfo Gonzalez, placing runners on 2nd and 3rd. The next Wisconsin batter singled the 2 in to put them ahead. Great Lakes was retired in order in the 9th to end the game. Bell had a forgettable night, lowering his average to .200. Mattingly raised his to .191. The Loons again host Wisconsin tomorrow at 4pm.

Minor League Recap - 5/08/07

Triple A - Las Vegas lost 9-5

Tony Abreu - 1 for 5, K
Matt Kemp - 3 for 4, 2B, R, K, CS
James Loney - 0 for 4, 3 K's

Eric Stults got shelled as the 51's fell behind early and never managed to come back from their huge deficit. Stults left in the 2nd inning after walking the bases loaded and ended up allowing 6 ER in 1.2 IP. BJ LaMura, recently promoted from Double A, tossed 3 shutout innings as an emergency replacement. However, Matt Riley (Also recently called up from Double A) didnt fare so well, as he allowed 3 ER in 2.1 innings. Loney has struck out 4 times in his last 5 at bats and is hitting .250. Tony Abreu's performance lowered his average to .354. And Kemp doubled for the 5th time in his 3 hit effort. Vegas again hosts Oklahoma tomorrow night at 7:11pm.

Double A - Jacksonville won 4-1

Chin Lung Hu - 0 for 4, K
Xavier Paul - 1 for 3, R, BB
Anthony Raglani - 1 for 4, RBI, K, CS

Zach Hammes - 1.2 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's
Jon Meloan - 1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 R, BB, 2 K's

The Suns fell behind in the first, after lefty Eric Cyr allowed an unearned run. But Jacksonville came back with 4 in the 6th and the bullpen shut Birmingham down. Having Hammes and Meloan at the back of the pen really isnt fair. Hammes worked his 3rd straight scoreless appearance, while Meloan earned his 4th save of the season. On offense, Hu went hitless for only the 2nd time in the last 10 games and his average plummeted to .371. Raglani and Paul each collected hits, and are hitting .260 and .277 respectively. Strangely, the Suns play a day game in the middle of a 5 game series tomorrow at 10am.

High A - Inland Empire lost 6-5

Jamie Hoffman - 1 for 4, R, K
Blake DeWitt - 1 for 5, CS
Lucas May - 1 for 4, R, BB, SB
Travis Denker - 0 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Russell Mitchell - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, R, BB
Ivan De Jesus Jr - 1 for 5, SB

The 66ers staked starter Jesus Castillo to an early lead, scoring 3 in the 1st and 2 in the 4th. But Castillo struggled to finish his what he started, allowing 4 runs in the 5th inning. Cory Wade relieved Castillo in the 6th and allowed a run to tie the game. And the 5-5 tie remained going into the bottom of the 9th, when centerfielder James Tomlin singled and took 2nd on a wild pitch. Jamie Hoffman laid down a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled and reached safely, moving Tomlin to 3rd. But with the winning run on 3rd and no outs, Blake DeWitt lined out to 1st and Hoffman was doubled off. After Lucas May was intentionally walked, Travis Denker struck out swinging to send the game to extra innings. And Bakersfield took advantage of the Empire's squandered chance, plating a run and taking the lead. In the bottom of the 10th, DH Ryan Rogowski drew a 2 out walk but was thrown out stealing to end the game. The Empire looks to even up the series tomorrow night at 7:05pm.

Low A - Great Lakes won 5-3

Trayvon Robinson - 1 for 4, 2 RBI
Preston Mattingly - 0 for 4, 2 K's
Carlos Santana - 0 for 4, E
David Sutherland - 1 for 4, RBI, R, K
Josh Bell - 1 for 2, R, BB, E
Scott Van Slyke - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, R

Clayton Kershaw - 5.2 IP, 5 Hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K's

Kershaw made his first start since April 30th and showed some rust early, allowing 2 runs in the 2nd inning. But he settled in after that, allowing just 2 baserunners over the next 3.2 innings while striking out 6. His season ERA jumped to 1.47 and he's now struck out 43 batters in 30.2 innings. Van Slyke had a nice game and he's hitting .294 over his last 10 games. Bell committed error #11 but drew another walk, giving him 11 on the season. Mattingly is 9 for his last 40, while Carlos Santana is hitting just .156. How the Loons managed to score 5 runs in one inning is beyond me. Wisconsin comes back for more fun at Dow Diamond tomorrow at 4pm.
